Requirements:
Education: You need a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA).
Clinical Fellowship: After completing your master's degree, you must finish a clinical fellowship year (CFY). This is a period of supervised professional practice that lasts around 9 months to a year.
Licensure: Must be licensed with the state of Oregon. This typically involves completing the required application, providing proof of education and clinical fellowship, passing a national exam (like the Praxis exam), and fulfilling any additional state-specific requirements.
Certification: While not always mandatory for school-based SLPs, obtaining the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is highly recommended and often preferred by employers.
Background Check: School employees in Oregon are typically required to undergo a background check, including fingerprinting, before being allowed to work in schools.
