Professional Engineering Consultants is Hiring a Community and Regional Planner Near Wichita, KS

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform advanced professional work related to variety of planning assignments.
  • Provide professional planning assistance to a variety of clients on a range of project types.
  • Research, analyze and prepare reports on land use, natural resource, community growth, utility, transportation and socioeconomic issues.
  • Conduct the planning process and prepare comprehensive plans, amendments and updates.
  • Prepare zoning and subdivision codes, regulations, amendments and updates.
  • Prepare and submit grant and funding applications.
  • Coordinate with clients and other professional disciplines on individual projects.
  • Schedule, prepare, attend, conduct and/or present at meetings with the public, stakeholder groups, advisory boards and elected officials.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in planning or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of professional planning experience required with previous consulting experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ESRI ArcGIS is required. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • An understanding of regulatory permit requirements, land development practices, land use regulations and planning principles.
  • Broad planning/community development background with some special expertise in one or more planning discipline (land use, transportation, environmental, etc.).
  • Possess strong public speaking, interpersonal communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision to meet tight deadlines in a team environment.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification is highly desirable.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. Buildings are climate-controlled with tile, concrete and carpeted floors. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc. Occasional field visits to project locations, job sites and construction zones is required.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to handle files, computers and phones; reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel. Frequent and regular repetitive movements required using the wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
