We are currently hiring for a Dental Hygienist in Milwaukee, WI.

Part-time / Full Time

Who are we?
Founded in 1999, Progressive Community Health Centers is an independent non-profit organization that operates four clinic locations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. More than 100 employees support our agency's mission to improve the health and quality of life of the community by providing culturally competent services that address identified needs. We provide high quality, comprehensive care to roughly 16,000 patients annually, a majority of who are low-income. No one is ever turned away from our clinics based on insurance status or ability to pay. We value a patient-centered philosophy and provide range of services that include family medicine, internal medicine, women's health, urgent care, dental, radiology and integrated behavioral health. We also offer supportive services such as case management, health education and benefits enrollment.

National Health Service Corp Loan Repayment Program:

In exchange for loan repayment, you serve at least two years of service at an NHSC-approved site in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).

What will you do?

Participate in the dental treatment of patients by performing all aspects of hygiene including examining teeth and educating patients about proper oral hygiene. Takes and develops radiographs and assists Dentist with patient care in accordance with and as prescribed by the State of Wisconsin.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Works closely with dentists to carry out recommended clinical treatments, such as scaling and polishing to prevent and control periodontal (gum) disease.
  2. Participates in the dental treatment of patients by performing dental prophylaxis, applying topical fluorides, examining teeth, and assisting dentist with procedures, as required.
  3. Makes radiographs and processes, as well as evaluates developed radiographs.
  4. Administers some minor treatments under the supervision of the dentist.
  5. Performs charting of patient's needs, presenting problem(s), medical and dental health history, tooth charting, and review social history.
  6. Review treatment recommendations with patients and manages patient hygiene regimen.
  7. Takes and records vital signs, prior to rendering dental care.
  8. Assist in the development of prevention programs for patients.
  9. Shares with maintenance and sterilization duties.
  10. Attends office training and meetings along with continuing education classes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

  1. Capable of managing patient flow effectively with providers, staff members, and patients in fast paced environment.
  2. Able to follow and apply established office policies and procedures.
  3. Ability to relate well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  4. Ability to have empathy for patients and to treat them with dignity and respect, in a professional and courteous manner.
  5. Ability to manage patient flow in a fast paced clinic environment.
  6. Willingness to work flexible hours in order to meet patient care needs/demands.
  7. Knowledge of anesthetic given and procedures, for both children and adults.
  8. Knowledge of universal precautions and blood borne pathogens
  9. Ability to document clearly, patient vital signs and chief complaint, as well as pay close attention to charting detail

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Must be a graduate from an accredited college or university Dental Hygiene program. Currently licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin. Previous hygiene experience preferred, with experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center a plus.
