Progressive Life Center, Inc. (PLC) is a Black-led organization, providing culturally-sensitivity human services to children, youth and families in the District of Columbia and surrounding Maryland, throughout Greater Philadelphia, and in most of Delaware. PLC’s array of community-based services includes foster care and adoption, independent living for youth aging out of foster care, family preservation, juvenile diversion, and parenting skills training. Program Summary

The Family Preservation programs minimize the risk of children being removed from their family and home. In-home services are provided to build upon existing family strengths, minimize family crisis, stabilize the family unit, skill build, increase awareness and access to community resources, and keep the family intact. Case Workers provide support and collaborate with families to identify strengths and needs and develop plans of care specifically tailored for the family. Families are involved in all aspects of treatment and intervention.

Position Description

The Program Director will executive direction for overall program.

  • Execute overall direction for Prince George’s County Interagency Family Preservation and Montgomery County Family Connections programs.
  • Supervise and evaluate program staff.
  • Supervise and approve intern hours.
  • Participate in case consultation with contract monitor/funding source.
  • Participate in monthly and quarterly meetings with contract monitor/funding source.
  • Assign referrals in a timely manner to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintain and manage referral database.
  • Complete and ensure timely submission of all required reports.
  • Maintain up-to-date and confidential documentation of client files.
  • Manage program budgets.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and training consistently and promptly.
  • Execute contract deliverables and measure program outcomes.
  • Approve documents in program specific databases (e.g., CJAMS)
  • Monitor and conduct audits on information in the Agency database (e.g., FamCare).
  • Ensure program processes and practices adhere to COMAR regulations and COA standards.
  • Sensitivity to and competence in the cultural differences that are present among PLC’s service population.
  • Ability to forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families in which they are helped to gain the skills and confidence to address any issues and problems they face.
  • Conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change.
  • Ability to work in partnership with other team members.
  • Ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of the practitioner and to intervene appropriately to meet the needs of the persons served or other family members.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Maryland Clinical Social Work License (LCSW-C).
  • Two (2) or more years related human services field experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Professional experience in supervisory administration in a Mental Health facility desirable.
  • Experience in providing home-based services preferred.
  • Strong administrative, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Experience utilizing MS office Suite and web-based database system.
  • Ability to travel within the Washington Metropolitan region and valid driver’s license.
  • Certification in NTU Service Delivery Model within one (1) year of hire.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Ability to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, mobile devices, and computer printer); Manual dexterity needed for using a mobile device, calculator, and computer keyboard.
  • Ability to position self to stoop kneels, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to navigate stairwells.
  • Ability to frequently communicate with employees/customers/clients; and must be able to exchange accurate information by perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral and written information.
  • Ability to frequently move files weighing up to 20 pounds throughout the office space.
  • Ability to participate in fire drills or other drills during an emergency.
  • Ability to be available on call and often respond to situations during off hours which can disrupt normal sleep patterns and cause fatigue.
  • Ability to face a significant amount of emotional stress which can cause related physical stress on muscles as well as other physical symptoms such as headaches and fatigue.

  • Community-based outpatient settings, community agencies.
  • Transport vehicles (company or personal).
  • Work areas are often noisy, irregular, and unpredictable and can be stressful at times due to clients demonstrating varying levels of recovery and symptoms.
