Job Summary:

The Substitute Kitchen Coordinator is responsible forsupporting the Kitchen Coordinator in ensuring adequate nutritional and dietarystandards are met for all residents, including meal preparation, ensuring thekitchen is clean, orderly, well stocked and meeting Health Departmentstandards.Schedule:Weekends, hours vary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist theKitchen Coordinator in providing balanced and complete meals for all residents,including provisions for special needs (vegetarian, diabetic, low sodium, renaldisease, food allergies) as well as working to provide good nutrition standardsto people who may have health issues per their homeless history. 
  •  Prepareand serve weekend meals and provide support to staff serving weekend meals.
  •  Work withthe Kitchen Coordinator and site team to coordinate special resident events,birthdays and holidays.
  • With theKitchen Coordinator, maintain health and safety standards to ensure compliancewith License and Inspection, ServSafe regulatory requirements and adhere tocity and state requirements for distribution/cooking of food.
  • Maintainexpected equipment standards including proper temperature of cooked food,record temperature of room, freezers, and refrigerators record compliance ondaily log.
  •  Inspectkitchen regularly for any needed repairs and/or required maintenance and submitand follow-up on work orders in conjunction with Program Manager or designee.
  •  Communicate to theKitchen Coordinator/Program Manager any resident concerns or observations thatcould impact program operations.

Education and Experience Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Experience:
  • HighSchool Diploma or Equivalency, experience cooking for large groups
  • ServSafeManagerial Certification, must be secured within 90 days of hire
  • Knowledgeof balanced menu planning

Preferred Experience:

  • Certificate in culinary arts
  • Valid Pa driver's license

Core Skills:

  • Computer proficiency, good written and verbalcommunication skills
  • Excellentcommunication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellentinterpersonal skills to work collaboratively with all levels of staff and residents

Physical requirements:

Work that primarilyinvolves standing/walking and some lifting.
