The Payroll Specialist will process the payrolls assigned to them in an accurate and efficient manner. The person should be able to recognize problems during the processing of payrolls. They should have a good working knowledge of payroll and tax laws for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle the accurate and timely processing of payments to employees including maintaining certain employee pay related data, garnishments, taxes, deductions and resignations. This person will also be responsible for pulling, reconciling and balancing time from the Time & Attendance system into the payroll system. 
  • Respond to customers (employees) inquiries and issues for timely resolution in professional manner.
  • Balance deduction accounts and create check requests.
  • Create upload files for various earnings/deductions.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Experience/Education/Training:
  • A minimum of 1 - 2 years of payroll experience in a business environment is highly preferred. 
  • A degree from a 2 or 4 year school is preferred. Consideration may be given for specialized training in payroll, accounting or other business procedures in place of experience including professional designations such as C.P.P.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills are required. 
  • Excellent Computer skills are required. 
  • Some knowledge/understanding of tax laws is highly preferred. 
  • Good communication skills and problem solving are required. 
  • Ultimate Software experience is a plus.
Abilities:
  • The candidate will need to be able to work in a fast pace environment.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of payroll and taxation is preferred.
  • Must have accurate typing and data entry skills, working knowledge of PC applications specifically Microsoft applications, report extraction knowledge, ability to work under pressure and time constraints, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work on a daily basis.
  • Experience with excel spreadsheets is required.
  • Due to the nature of the information, the candidate will need to be able to see and process information that can be held in the strictest of confidence.
  • Contact with others: The candidate will spend a significant amount (60%) of their time dealing with employees/customers. Requires interpersonal skills sufficient for professional interaction with employees and managers in relation to payroll issues and concerns. Supply data, as requested from other departments, to the appropriate person in a timely manner. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and strong customer service skills. They need to be able to be flexible, at times, with their schedule and work well with other team members. They need to be able to problem solve and recommend resolutions to the Supervisor. They will be representing the Payroll Department and good interpersonal skills are a must.

$41,600 - $53,000 a year
Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $41,600 to $53,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees.
This position also offers additional incentive opportunities through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance.
