Join our team as a Regulatory Compliance Manager!


This is a hybrid role being onsite in Maple Plain, MN on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.


The Regulatory Compliance Manager will be responsible for managing a team of individuals whose responsibilities include interfacing with customers, sales reps, managers and cross-functional stakeholders to address the company’s legal and compliance needs; assisting and influencing business partners across multiple lines of business to ensure that adequate policies and procedures are developed and implemented and that Protolabs’ products and services are provided in a manner consistent with applicable regulations and best practices; reviewing and negotiating customer-facing contracts and agreements, providing compliance support to various projects and initiatives, as well as act as a subject matter expert in various capacities. This position will report to the Director of Legal & Compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Investigate high-complexity issues, gather/research and track related information and make decisions and/or recommendations, as appropriate. 
  • Draft, proof, edit, negotiate and finalize contracts, agreements, amendments, certifications and other corporate documents. 
  • Research applicable laws and regulations, analyze their effect on business practices and work with Legal Counsel as needed to clarify requirements and address related issues.  
  • Coordinate data collection from suppliers and third-party manufacturers, including product composition, Conflict Minerals forms, and compliance declarations. 
  • Drive the compliance program and documentation by drafting appropriate policies and procedures. 
  • Review and complete customer documentation and surveys. 
  • Review complex solicitations and prepare specialized and/or non-routine response for proposals, bids, and contract modifications. 
  • Maintain electronic and paper file records, including scanning and saving documents. 
  • Other job duties as assigned.  
  • Manage direct reports locally and remotely and in a matrix environment. 
  • Support strategic initiatives and deliver excellent internal and external customer satisfaction.  
  • Promote cross-level and cross-functional collaboration. 
  • Responsible for the on-going coaching and development of assigned employees.   
  • Support direct reports with clear direction and removing roadblocks for them. 
  • Honor and exhibit core values of the organization. 


What it takes:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience  
  • 6-10 years of experience managing a team and leading cross-functional teams at all levels of the organization 
  • Experience in chemical product safety, product stewardship, regulatory compliance and/or other applicable discipline 
  • Experience with negotiating regulatory issues in legal contracts
  • Ability to manage a diverse team performing complex tasks in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to interpret and apply state, federal, and international regulations 
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments, work well under pressure, and have the flexibility to assist team in meeting demands on accelerated schedules 
  • A detail oriented individual with strong organizational skills 
  • Ability to multi-task 
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex compliance issues to any level of employee 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to effectively collaborate with strong leaders in an emerging environment 
  • Flexible and versatile personality who is committed to continuous improvement and willing to adapt to change easily 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across diverse teams and build effective business relationships.  
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Microsoft office and demonstrated ability to learn new systems and applications 
  • Highest level of integrity and business ethics 
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with team members; demonstrate cooperation and flexibility and willingness to handle a variety of tasks 
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple assignments and coordinate workflow 
  • Assertive and proactive without being confrontational or abrasive along with interacting with many different types of individuals 


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated capability to work within various regulatory areas including: REACH, RoHS, Prop 65, TSCA, Conflict Mineral, EUMDR, etc.

Physical Demands:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse, telephone and printer; reach with hands, and arms, talk, see and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. However, there may be job duties that require the employee to spend time in the manufacturing areas exposed to machinery and noise; eye protection occasionally required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
