Providence Animal Center is Hiring an Admissions Associate - Part Time Near Media, PA

Job DescriptionJob SummaryThe Admissions Associate is responsible to provide all animals in assigned area with exercise, attention, affection, feeding, watering, mental stimulation and grooming. Administer wellness examinations for all incoming animals, to include vaccinations, medical tests, and preventative care. All job duties are supportive of Providence Animal Center's mission in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures, and with the safety of people and animals at the forefront of all activities. This job description should be taken as a general description of the responsibilities of the position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
Accountability: This position reports to the Admissions Manager
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain animal housing, bedding, food/water dishes, and trash removal in assigned area to include Cattery, Cat Holding, Dog Holding, Nursery, and Puppy Holding rooms
  • Administer wellness exams to all incoming animals. Wellness exams include necessary vaccinations and preventative care. Perform basic medical tasks such as nail trims, ear cleaning, drawing blood for feline combo testing and canine heartworm testing, microchipping, blacklighting, and skin scrapes
  • Monitor health status of all animals in assigned area(s), writing vet request slips and/or reporting any pressing concerns to your immediate supervisor and/or staff veterinarian for evaluation in a timely fashion
  • Accurately record and enter all medical information including exam, vaccines, medications, tests and results on the kennel card and into the adoptions database
  • Cover Cattery Adoptions Associate lunch breaks. See Cattery Adoptions Associate Job Description
  • Assist with feline socialization and behavioral modification; record progress updates as appropriate
  • Perform and/or assist with testing of cats and dogs for feline friendliness
  • Follow guidelines to ensure that animal holding areas include appropriate music and/or auditory stimulation for shelter animals
  • Maintain clear communication with direct manager in regards to supply needs and departmental maintenance issues.
  • Follow safety and sanitation protocols and procedures
  • Maintain a safe and clean admissions area and assist with general center upkeep as needed, to include donation removal, moving and/or organizing various supplies/ deliveries, and maintaining outdoor kennel/play areas
  • Participates in Providence Animal Center events as needed or required
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of basic dog and cat physiology, anatomy and behavior as it relates to understanding the general health of animals.
  • Knowledge of veterinary terminology. Ability to interpret and effectively communicate information in the medical record to determine overall health, vaccination status, and veterinary care needs
  • Ability to restrain cats and dogs, of any size, including fractious animals and the use of safety equipment and alternate handling methods
  • Ability to learn and effectively communicate behavioral and medical information about the animals
  • Ability to read canine and feline body language and respond accordingly
  • Basic computer skills; ability to learn adoptions software.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions, and safety regulations related to effective animal care, maintaining sanitary conditions and overall health of shelter animals, and other work related precautions.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have a genuine interest in the work, programs, and mission of Providence Animal Center
Work Environment And Physical Requirements
  • Animal shelter; subject to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to handle dogs as large as 100lbs
  • Must sit, stand, walk, bend and stoop frequently to perform duties
  • Ability to lift and carry 25lbs without assistance
  • Possible exposure to cleaning agents, allergens, and zoonotic disease
  • Subject to loud/frequent noise, animal bites, and scratches
