Basic functions of position:

The main duties of Charge Nurses are to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for clients under their jurisdiction. They are to provide care to residents at a very personal level and have direct contact with residents on a daily basis.

Primary functions of position:

* Provide bedside care to residents including personal hygiene maintenance

* Record the residents vital signs (including blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate)

* Collect resident's health information

* Relay information between residents, registered nurses, and physicians

* Give oral medications and injections to residents

* Test a residents blood sugar levels

* Urinary catheter insertion and care

* Wound care and dressing changes

* Ostomy site care and maintenance

* Assist residents with personal hygiene

* Monitor for changes in residents

* Proper charting, documentation, and maintenance of residents medical records

Educational Requirements:

An Associate's degree from a community college, technical school, or vocational school. North Carolina certification as a practical nurse.

Preferred Education:

Bachelor's degree in nursing.
