Position Overview

An Equipment Operator is responsible for operating construction equipment to assist in the construction of roadways.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy equipment in compliance with company operating safety policies and procedures
  • Provides recommendations for maintaining and improving environmental performance
  • Loads and unloads equipment from vehicles and trailers
  • Ensures company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner
  • Collects and disposes of scrap, excess materials, and refuse
  • Observe distribution of paving material to adjust machine settings or material flow, and indicates low spots for workers to add material
  • Completes required inspections, paperwork, reporting and other documentations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor exposed to weather elements, noise, dust and temperature extremes (hot/cold)
  • Ability to independently lift 50 – 75lb
  • Ability to operate computer and/or other related equipment
  • Ability to follow safe work practices and wear all required personal protection equipment for the task (safety glasses/shield, hardhat, safety boots and gloves)
  • Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Must demonstrate effective decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and deal with challenges/issues
  • Must demonstrate strong ethics, interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
  • Proven ability to follow precise directions and procedures
  • Proven ability to adapt to an ever-changing schedule
  • Ability to absorb and retain formalized training
  • Ability to work overtime if necessary.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight to perform work at other branches

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 4 years of experience
  • Must have a good driving record
  • Must possess a valid California
  • Class A driver license and medical card with tanker endorsements is required

  • Frequently lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift 75 pounds. The employee should be able carry from floor level to waist level; also push/pull objects with similar force.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
