Our Client, a collective bargaining agent in the transportation and shipping industry, is seeking a management side Union Labor Associate to join their team on a full time basis. We are seeking an individual that ideally has experience supporting management concerns for union agreements in the transportation and shipping field. This individual will assist with and manage the negotiation and administration of labor contracts on behalf of this association’s member companies. This may also include administrating payroll and some specific benefits. In addition, this role will manage grievance investigation and resolution, including arbitration.RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in analyzing union agreements. Interpret and analyze the intent, spirit, and terms of contract.
Counsel management in development and application of labor relations policies.
Collaborate on reports such as reports on frequency of actions taken regarding grievances, arbitration, mediation, and related labor relations activities
Develop knowledge of the terms of labor contracts; monitor implementation of policies concerning wages, hours, working conditions.
Assist in the investigation of complaints of violations, develop reports
Furnish reference documents and statistical data concerning labor legislation, labor market conditions, and other data for negotiations
Provide support to and participate in joint Labor Relations Committee meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent communication, written, oral, interpersonal and teamwork skills, communicate constructively and confidently, listen openly, and collaborate well with staff and others.
Demonstrate practical knowledge of union agreements and union matters with the willingness to learn specifics of each union
Display strong work ethic and integrity beyond reproach, and take ownership for meeting the goals of the department or organization.
Maintain a professional and positive attitude under pressure with a results orientation to problem solving.
Ability and experience in exercising good judgment and discretion in handling confidential matters.
Ability to multi-task to meet multiple deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail
Possess strong organizational and analytical skills in managing deadlines.
Display initiative for own technical development including learning from others about the nuances of the organization’s operational activities and industry.
Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
Excellent computer skills and experience using systems such as Oracle databases and MS Office software

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, labor relations, or political science from a four- year college or university required. Juris Doctorate degree a plus.
Over seven years of labor relations experience is preferred.
Maritime industry experience is preferred.
A valid state Driver’s License and reliable transportation are required for this job.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., if able to do so.
Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.
Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequently
Must be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.
