Public Health-Dayton & Montgomery County is Hiring an OFFICE ASSISTANT I Near Dayton, OH

Salary Range: $17.48 - $22.89/hourly (Non-exempt)
  • salary commensurate with experience
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the WIC Program Supervisor, the Office Assistant I/II is responsible for performing a variety of clerical functions in support of, and according to, the needs of the Office, department, or program.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Interacts with public/clients through counter service by answering program specific questions, schedules client appointments, gathers confidential information to complete registration or processing WIC service applications, verifies eligibility for services/programs, and assist clients with paperwork
Types rough drafts, forms, cards, letters and other textual or numeric material, maintains filing system, prepares and files reports, sorts and distributes mail, orders office supplies, and completes routine forms. May be responsible for codifying information
Answers and directs inquiries, questions, and complaints from incoming multiline phone system
Serves as a backup to other support staff
Is an active participant in professional growth through attendance at meetings, trainings, workshops, and webinars
May participate on interview panels and in applicant selection process
Supports Public Health goals, mission, vision, values, and objectives through daily tasks and special projects
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
General knowledge of office practices/procedures
Basic computer skills and working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Products
Ability to type 35 wpm
Office Assistant II: Two years' experience as Office Assistant I
Understands and acknowledges that Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County uses evidence-based and evidence-informed public health practices based on scientific research including health promotion theory and practice, environmental health measures, and communicable disease control measures including vaccination, isolation, and quarantine practices, and medicine for treatment and prevention of disease, among others
Understands and acknowledges the use of tobacco or nicotine products in any form including replacement therapy products and prescription medications used to treat smoking addiction for anyone hired after January 1, 2014, is prohibited
Required to play an active role during a public health emergency, crisis, outbreak, incident, or event in which the Health Commissioner deems additional personnel resources are warranted. This may include changes in responsibilities and working locations/hours
Completion of Incident Command System 100 and National Incident Management System 700 courses within 90 days of hire
Valid State of Ohio driver’s license and insurance on any personal vehicle that will be used for work
Preferred Qualifications:
Office Assistant I: Two years’ clerical/administrative support experience
WIC experience
Multi-line telephone system experience
Customer service skills
Medical terminology background
Bilingual in Spanish
