Job Overview
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manages and develops a tiered portfolio of 125-150 current and prospective donors, respectfully, with
- planned touch points, prompt thanking and timely solicitations, with a premium placed on donor retention
- and increased giving
- Responsible for the discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and donors in support of
- PBS SoCal’s individual programs and combined mission of Public Media Group of Southern California
- Achieve annual performance metrics and fundraising goals – to be determined annually
- Partner with department leadership to create stewardship plans, strategies and goals
- Manages relationships with donors using multiple channels—including phone, email, personal mail, Zoom
- and face-to-face meetings, when appropriate
- Create opportunities for donors and prospects to become more deeply engaged with PBS SoCal's mission
- and learn about organizational programs and initiatives that align with their giving interests
- Develop donor correspondence, briefings, proposals, updates and other donor communications that reflect
- and align with fundraising strategies, with support and collaboration from colleagues
- Document donor touchpoints (e.g. visits, calls, emails, events, and mailings—including
- new/updated information about the donor) in constituent management system following established
- protocols and provide timely follow-up and debrief after meetings
- Develop and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with colleagues across the organization
- Play a key role in raising awareness of PBS SoCal’s programming and activities throughout the community
- Attend and assist with all fundraising activities and events
- Initiate and implement donor strategies to encourage giving
- Collaborate with other Major Gift Officers on the development of strategies
- Actively participate in meetings (team, department, organization, other)
- Create and prepare materials for donors
- Track and report on major gifts progress
- Actively pursue professional learning and growth regarding PBS SoCal and the PBS system, as well as
- emerging trends in public media to help identify effective new fundraising approaches and solutions
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in legal, finance, business administration or related field (preferred)
- 3 years of direct fundraising experience – specifically major and planned gifts
- A combination of education and experience will be considered
- A passion for public media
- Experience in major donor cultivation and solicitation
- Understanding of and commitment to the Los Angeles community
- Ability to exercise sound judgement, discretion, and compliance with PBS SoCal and AFP ethics policies and standards
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Successful track record of developing strong cultivation and solicitation strategies
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage projects
- Experience in prospect research techniques and resources
- Highly organized and motivated
- Technologically savvy, with fluent use of business software systems including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and fundraising CRMs
- Proven ability to collaborate with other Major Gift Officers and organizational staff
