Public Schools of Brookline is Hiring a 1.0 Physics Teacher - 1 year contract (SY2024-25) Near Brookline, MA
Job DescriptionThe Brookline Public Schools are seeking an experienced, energetic, and collaborative teacher, who has experience in teaching Physics to 9th grade students. The position is covering a leave of absence, and is full time. At Brookline High, Physics is taught in 9th grade, Chemistry in 10th grade, and then Biology in 11th. Students may then choose an optional course or more. Our school completed a world class science renovation, which reflects our strong commitment to teaching science at a high level. Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
Teaching four classes of Physics, at the Honor, Standard, or AP levels
Teaching one Tutorial class with another teacher to mentor students with all of their coursework, if the assignment does not include AP Physics
Demonstrating appropriate long and short term preparation for classroom instruction, using our well-defined and organized curriculum
Using a variety of effective teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technologies to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings
Continuously assessing student progress, providing students and parents with specific feedback, and using the results to adjust instruction as needed
Providing opportunities for academic support and challenge
Keeping current in the field of Physics, and in our innovative teaching strategies and learning research
Collaborating with colleagues to examine student data, planning curriculum, and ensuring appropriate learning experiences for all students
Establishing and maintaining a functional, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community
Requirements Qualifications
Well-developed understanding of Physics and the pedagogy required to effectively teach the subjects
Thorough knowledge of how diverse learners acquire and develop an understanding of science
Excellent classroom management skills
Ability to reflect on personal learning through the analysis of one’s teaching practice, student learning data, and the teaching practices of others
Ability to be open to constructive critique of supervisors, administrators and colleagues
Ability to collaborate with all faculty
Bachelor’s Degree
Mass. DESE certification in Physics 9-12
SEI Endorsement
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree
2-3 years of experience in teaching
