Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our finance team in Lansing, MI. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, including managing direct reports, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintaining robust internal controls. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Sage / Intacct software and a strong background in the cannabis industry is preferred. This position reports directly to the CFO.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee all accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, cost accounting, inventory accounting.
• Manage and mentor the accounting team, providing leadership and guidance to ensure high performance and professional development.
• Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and company policies.
• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports to the CFO and executive team.
• Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
• Coordinate and manage the annual audit processes, including preparation of audit schedules and liaising with external auditors.
• Monitor and analyze monthly accounting data and produce financial reports and statements.
• Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including tax filings and reporting.
• Collaborate with other departments to support overall company goals and objectives.
• Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes to support strategic planning and decision-making.
• Utilize Sage / Intacct software to streamline accounting processes and enhance reporting capabilities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience in the cannabis industry is highly desirable.
• Proficiency with Sage / Intacct software is highly desired
