POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Production Manager is responsible for the overall plant production, performance and integrating all aspects of the supporting department(s) to achieve those tasks. The manager coordinates, communicates, plans and executes the overall production activities. This role plays a pivotal part in bridging the gap between strategic objectives and day-to-day operations, ensuring that the manufacturing process is efficient, safe and capable of delivering high-quality products on time and within budget. The Production Manager is essential for driving operational excellence and achieving business success in the high abrasive industry. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced individual who demonstrates operational excellence, strong leadership capabilities, and accountability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Management
· Oversee day-to-day production activities to ensure efficient and effective operations meeting quality objectives.
· Participate and facilitate the development and execution of production schedules to meet customer demands and optimize resource utilization including the monitoring of production processes and adjustment of schedules as needed to ensure timely delivery of products.
Quality Assurance
· Maintain high-quality standards by executing, training and monitoring quality control procedures and standard work instructions. At minimum, experience with ISO9001.
· Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to identify and resolve any quality issues through problem solving; familiarity with 8D process is preferred.
· Initiate and manage ‘Single Issues’ list for problem resolution and continuous improvements.
· Participate in cross-functional root cause investigations when issues arise.
Safety and Compliance
· Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations and promote a culture of safety within the production team.
· Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to mitigate potential hazards.
Team Leadership
· Lead, mentor and develop the production team to enhance their skills and performance.
· Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, innovation and continuous improvement.
· Provide leadership and supervision of production supervisors to ensure timely production, outputs and proper resource distribution.
· Oversee training and provide knowledge and motivation to employees to create a positive culture and increase employee development.
· Analyze and implement best techniques to properly utilize resources and materials to achieve plant goals.
Process Improvement and Supply Chain Management
· Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions.
· Collaborate with maintenance team to develop effective professional maintenance schedules that increase equipment productivity and autonomous maintenance.
· Drive operational excellence in Lean Manufacturing, 5S and Six Sigma methodologies.
· Manage inventory levels to ensure adequate supply of raw materials and finished products.
· Coordinate with the supply chain team to optimize procurement and logistics operations.
Reporting and Accountability
· Prepare and present regular reports on production metrics, including efficiency, quality and safety.
· Set and monitor performance goals for the production team and hold them accountable for achieving targets.
· Monitor, analyze and report plant operating efficiencies and established KPIs to management staff.
· Coordinate the activities of production, manufacturing engineering, product engineering, quality, P&L and other support departments to efficiently and effectively meet all production requirements and resolve issues.
REQUIREMENTS/ SKILLS
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business (10 years of equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of educational background)
· Minimum 5 years management experience
· Minimum 5 years experience within related industries (i.e. chemical, abrasives, automotive, robotic, aerospace/ defense)
· Proficient in quality management systems, requirements and practices
· Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and 5S methodologies
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
· Proven leadership abilities and professionalism
· Effective organization ability
