General Description
This is full-time, hourly position that reports to a Crew Leader, or designee. The position performs unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual work in the performance of laboring tasks and a variety of construction and maintenance work.
Essential Job Functions
Essential Job Functions:
  • Road repairs (asphalt, limerock, etc.). Installs road signs. Clears trees, brush, and vegetation from roadside. Removes and installs concrete.
  • Loads and unloads heavy material from trucks. Moves equipment and large bulky objects. Performs custodial duties.
  • Flags traffic on roads under repair.
  • Maintains grounds. Rakes grass and water plants. Weeds flower beds. Shapes hedges and trims trees. Cuts grass. Plants and fertilizes flowers. May operate tractor-mower in mowing grass on right-of-way on a training basis.
  • Loads trash on truck. Unloads trash and other material. Picks up boxes and other materials left by residents.
  • Performs repair to equipment. Digs ditches.
  • Operates gasoline or other powered machinery such as cement mixers, air hammers, compressors, pumping machinery, saws and etc.
  • Performs manual laboring tasks as assigned.
  • Required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) during emergencies or other related emergency duties.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of tools used in maintenance and construction work.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards connected with laboring work.
  • Ability to perform manual labor.
  • Ability to learn methods of operating and maintaining equipment and tools.
  • Ability to follow, read, and understand written and oral instructions.
  • Skill in using hand tools.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Completion of the eighth (8) grade.
(A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS
  • Ability to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
  • Sufficient physical strength, agility, and freedom from disabling defects to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over).
  • Acceptable vision (with or without correction).
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
  • Pulling, pushing, balancing.
  • Walking, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping.
  • Climbing a step ladder.

  • Works inside and outside in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to dust and dirt.
