The Beckton CHiP plant is designed to have an overall world-leading electrical efficiency of more than 55%, and export up to 17MW of electricity. The plant uses bioliquid fuels classified as renewable and sustainable such as tallow, used cooking oil soya oil and rapeseed oil to power a marine diesel engine. Renewable waste heat from the plant is used in the adjacent gas pressure reduction station owned by Cadent, enabling it to reduce the use of its existing gas heaters and let down the gas pressure for distribution.
The OpportunityWe are now recruiting for an Operations Apprentice at Beckton CHiP reporting directly to the Operations Supervisor. The Apprentice will work within the Operations Department, performing various operations and maintenance duties to ensure the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient running of the plant at Beckton CHiP.
Apprenticeship Standard: Process Industry Manufacturing Technician
Qualification: Process Industry Manufacturing Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard

Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade 4 (C) or above, including English, Mathematics and Science
- Practical – works well with hands, good coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to complete work accurately, safely, to schedule and on time
- Able to follow rules and procedures
- Ability to respond to changing workloads, showing willingness and flexibility
