SUMMARY

The Senior Analyst of Origination & Power Marketing position is responsible for supporting the sourcing and execution of offtake opportunities for utility-scale solar, energy storage, and hybrid projects. The position will also support the Origination & Power Marketing team in identifying and building strategic partnerships with utilities and other LSEs for alternative revenue contracts, such as Development Asset Transfers or Build-Transfer Agreements. The successful candidate will have experience in commercial & regulatory efforts within the utility-scale solar and energy storage space with a robust understanding of market dynamics and shifting trends in energy procurement from major off takers. This role will combine experience in the regulatory policy, commercial offtake, and development spaces across U.S. utility-scale market, including gaining an understanding of the barriers and opportunities facing solar and energy storage technology industry. Specifically, this role will require and gain experience with 1) the development cycle of new utility-scale solar and energy storage projects, 2) supporting new market strategy for greenfield campaigns 3) assessing future procurement trends of major LSEs, such as via Integrated Resource Plans, and 4) evaluating evolving contracting mechanisms. This position reports to the Director of Origination & Power Marketing, or another management personnel that the President of the Company may designate. This position reports to the Irvine, CA office but will maintain a hybrid schedule of working out of their home office and the Irvine, CA office. Working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time. This position is expected to travel up to 30% of the time.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regular attendance, in accordance with company's attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position
  • Support the tracking of upcoming RFP solicitations and preparation of RFP response packages for utility-scale solar, storage, and hybrid projects across the U.S.
  • Conduct analytical research – as well as engage in bilateral customer conversations – to help HQC in identifying untapped markets or subsegments of off takers to pursue for new power marketing opportunities (i.e., municipalities and electric cooperatives)
  • Build and maintain relationships with individuals in procurement roles at LSEs as well as third-party intermediaries (such as C&I advisory firms or Energy/REC brokerage firms)
  • Collaborate across multiple departments – including Development, Project Finance, EPC, and SI – to develop customized offtake products and pricing for customers
  • Stay current on market, industry, economic, consumer, and competitive trends
  • Engage in industry groups and follow regulatory changes to identify new opportunities, risks, and market solutions
  • Be technically astute with the full life cycle of utility solar and energy storage project development, origination, and valuation
  • Monitor PPA markets and provide intelligence to inform development and offtake strategy
  • Support in the creation of creative deal structures – such as indexed PPA and energy storage tolling pricing – to help differentiate product offering of HQC’s projects
  • Prepare investment memoranda and presentations for Senior Management
  • Support contract negotiation and execution by leading cross-functional teams through complex internal processes
  • Maintain an understanding of the relevant regulations for regional wholesale energy generation and transmission as well as power-related supply/demand fundamentals
  • Develop marketing materials and proposals for external-facing parties in support of power marketing efforts

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in business, engineering, sustainability, finance, or related field
  • 4 years of experience in the regulatory and commercial energy sector
  • Knowledge on the major offtake entities in HQC’s key target markets
  • Robust knowledge of U.S. utility-scale solar development, power market, customer segments, and evolving regulatory frameworks of key markets
  • Requires the ability to stay current with changing technologies, regulations, and trends influencing the continued adoption of renewable energy and energy storage
  • Ability to quickly step into new tasks and adapt to new circumstances in a dynamic environment
  • Experience successfully operating in a geographically dispersed organization is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, communication, and relationship building skills
  • Willing to travel up to 30% of the time in North America and possibly more
  • Regular attendance, in accordance with company's attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position

SALARY RANGE FOR POSITION

The anticipated starting pay range of this position, which is to be located in Irvine, CA is $90,000 - $110,000 base salary per year.

The above-listed salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position and only pertains to the candidate if they work in Irvine, CA. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
