Optics Technician Position-B shift

Applicants for this position understand that the position is a second shift position. The hours are 1:00 pm-9:30 pm Monday-Friday with a 1/2 hour unpaid meal break

Due to continued growth we have another opening for an Optics Technician

Summary

Having a complete working knowledge of Conventional Processing of optical components, candidate will set up, operate, and maintain conventional grinding, polishing and metrology equipment under direction of engineering staff by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Completes incoming and final inspection for cosmetic and geometric tolerances using loupes, drop gauges, calipers, micrometers, depth micrometers, etc.
  • Reviews and executes project instructions and preliminary specifications to identify and plan requirements for manufacturing jobs and/or process development to ensure customer needs and schedules are met.
  • Prepares tooling for grinding, polishing or measurement setups.
  • Conventional processing of near net spheres, maintaining radius of curvature using test plates, spherometers and interferometry. Running up to 10 spindles at the same time.
  • Records and computes process data on laboratory forms for engineers.
  • Maintains detailed notes and records of the work performed.
  • Carries out routine maintenance tasks on manufacturing equipment – keeping them clean and properly functioning.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in a precision optics manufacturing shop (Preferred) or precision tool and die environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated experience to work independently with appropriate supervisory guidance.
  • Ability to multitask and work on several projects at one time.

Computer Skills

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of the Microsoft environment (file and folder structure, data storage, etc.); a working knowledge of spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of machine control software; metrology tool software (MetroPro, , etc.); and/or QED software a plus;

Other Skills and Abilities

Experience with handling, manufacturing and/or testing precision optics is desired.

Machinist experience is a plus

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Use of CNC equipment, scissor lift, forklifts, and other mechanical equipment is required – Proper training is required and provided before use, and caution must be used at all times when operating the equipment.

PPE to include gloves, safety glasses, proper footwear, etc is provided and required.

Work Hours: The Second shift hours are generally 1:00 pm-9:30 pm, but there is some flexibility.

The pay rate for this position will be between $21.00 per hour and $34.00 per hour. Where a candidate falls in the salary range will be based on the candidate's education and experience and how it compares with employees internally. A candidate should indicate the pay rate or range he/she is willing to accept in order to be considered for the position.
