Job Title: Catheterization Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: VA Palo Alto Health Care System, Palo Alto Division, 3801 Miranda Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94304

Job Type: Full-Time, Contractor

Period of Performance: One year starting on the effective award date of the contract, with 4 ordering periods.

Job Description:

QPCS is partnering with The VA Palo Alto Health Care System - seeking dedicated and skilled Catheterization Registered Nurses (RNs) to join the team. Candidates will provide cardiac catheterization, transaortic valve replacement, and electrophysiology procedure services to our veterans. This role requires a commitment to delivering quality care in accordance with VA policies and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Direct Patient Care (95% of time):

  • Circulate, assist, and operate equipment for cardiac catheterization, transaortic valve replacement, and electrophysiology procedures.
  • Monitor patients during procedures, including ECG and hemodynamic monitoring, identification of cardiac arrhythmias, and response to medications and treatments.
  • Document patient information in CPRS and maintain procedure logs in MacLab.
  • Administer medications, including ACLS medications and anticoagulants, with appropriate patient monitoring and documentation.
  • Operate complex radiographic, angiographic, and digital recording equipment while maintaining radiation safety principles.
  • Conduct quality control procedures on equipment.
  • Monitor patient status before, during, and after procedures.
  • Transport patients post-procedure.
  • Provide necessary support to physicians during all procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of all cardiac catheterization laboratory and hybrid operating room equipment.

2. Administrative Duties (5% of time):

  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings as required.
  • Attend staff meetings and rounds as required.
  • Complete QA/QI documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications, and outcomes.
  • Follow established patient safety and infection control standards of care.
  • Report any events related to patient safety, medication errors, and other breaches of patient safety to the COR.

Qualifications:

Licensure: Current, valid, and unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license.

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of critical care experience.
  • Minimum of two years within the past three years of cardiac catheterization laboratory experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous VA experience.
  • Knowledge of the VA electronic medical records (CPRS).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in advanced nursing skills, ECG monitoring, hemodynamics, and emergency response.
  • Excellent patient teaching and communication skills.
  • Technical proficiency in operating relevant equipment.
  • Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.

Mandatory VA Training:

  • Annual Government Ethics Training
  • Compliance and Business Integrity
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Infection Control
  • Privacy and HIPAA Training
  • Safety and Security Training
  • And other required VA trainings.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must meet all VA educational requirements and mandatory course requirements.
  • Must comply with the Immigration and Nationality Act and E-Verify requirements.
  • Must provide proof of background investigation paperwork within 10 calendar days of receipt from the COR.
  • Must ensure professional liability insurance, workers’ compensation, and health examinations are up to date.
  • Must complete all required clinical and medical record documentation.

Hours of Operation:

  • Regular Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Federal Holidays: Observed as per the Department of Veterans Affairs holiday schedule.

Note: The Contractor shall not perform work beyond the period of performance unless authorized in writing by the Contracting Officer. All candidates must comply with HIPAA regulations and other relevant VA policies and procedures.
