Qualigence International is Hiring a Controller Near Grand Rapids, MI

Position Summary:
This role is for a Controller and a downtown growing Grand Rapids company that has been in business for 30 yrs plus! This role is responsible for the Controllership & accounting duties including, but not limited to; recording financial transactions, proactively maintain accurate/timely accounting records, and preparing account reconciliations, assisting/leading with completion of financial statements, and a variety of reports and analyses to assist management in financial reporting and decision making. Lead monthly and annual general ledger closings, bank compliance, and annual audits / reviews for certain group companies. This position will manage the day-to-day accounting operations for the group and be a hands-on self-starting leader for the group of businesses individually and collectively.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Focus on full cycle accounting processes for specific entities within Convivial Brands group: Design Design, Tableau, Verdant, High Five, CB Manufacturing, group Property entities.
  • Responsible for Corporate Consolidation and all inter-company reconciliations. Continued development of all financial reporting systems leveraging all tools available.
  • Manage intercompany transactions on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.
  • Completes monthly account reconciliations, analyses and schedules.
  • Hands-on approach ranging from processing of AP/AR to preparing monthly journal entries to creating monthly financial statements.
  • Weekly Cash Forecasting - leading all communication inputs from Purchasing / Operations teams to accurately project a 13 Week Forecast.
  • Ownership of Cost Accounting duties for all group brands (as applicable).
  • Lead all annual budgets & monthly forecasts.
  • Complete workpapers for annual CPA and regulatory review.
  • Process all Monthly Commission / Rebates, and in primary lead on Quarterly Royalties for all Convivial brands.
  • Support Annual Insurance Renewals for group Property, General Liability and Transit Insurance Policies, collaborating with HR when necessary, on Worker's Comp.
  • Ensure all State Tax, State Sales Tax, Property Tax and general regulatory communication / follow-up / payments required are completed.
  • Capable of advanced analytical skills, attention to detail, dealing with ambiguity.
  • Advanced analytical skills with experience to know when to dive deep and pull back to understand the big picture. Manage the weeds without getting lost in them while having the ability to walk others through them.
  • Focus on improving processes with primary focus on improving technical linkages between core ERP (Microsoft NAV) with other group companies' specific ERP systems and assist in any systems enhancements.
  • Project based activities to standardize/document/implement accounting procedures with focus on continuous improvement across all entities.
  • Lead & develop General Accounting team (including AR & AP).
  • Be a proactive communicator within team and across all organizations / teams within the group. Develop relationships to be a leader that 'is in the know'.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required/Desired Qualifications:
Education, Training, and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5 years of experience in the Accountant or Controllership function.
  • Leadership of General Accounting activities experience.
  • Cost Accounting experience a plus.
  • Hands-on experience working with accounting software systems; Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains, Microsoft Navision is a plus.
  • Insight JET Reports including data warehousing capabilities a plus.
  • Hands on usage of varying software platforms a plus.
  • Office 365.

  • Strong analytical & advanced Excel skills.

  • Flexibility and ability to solve problems analytically.
  • Ability to envision data from basic input to ultimate output across multiple legal entities.
  • Ability to handle financial and other personal information in a confidential manner.
  • Confidence in working with associates at all levels within the organization.
