RA Capital Management is Hiring a RAVen - Senior Associate, Healthcare Services Near Boston, MA

RA Capital Management (RACM) is a multi-stage investment manager dedicated to evidence-based investing in public and private healthcare and life science companies, and private planetary health companies.
RAVentures (RAVen), the in-house incubator of RACM, is the venture- and company creation-focused division which houses a collaborative environment for exploring new opportunities. While this role is focused on healthcare services and related areas, much of the team consists of drug hunters and company builders who are focused on discoveries and advancements in chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, genome engineering, synthetic biology, and other technologies and therapeutic programs to create novel companies that may address unsolved challenges for patients. RAVen also provides expert operational support tailored to the specific needs of new and early-stage biotech and healthcare services companies.
About the role:As a Senior Associate, Healthcare Services, you will be at the forefront of company creation, playing a vital role in identifying, evaluating, and launching new healthcare companies. Leveraging your extensive industry experience and expertise, you will collaborate with our team of experts to develop and execute innovative business models that address emerging trends in healthcare delivery, regulatory landscapes, and technology platforms. This is a hands-on role where you will be deeply involved in every aspect of building and scaling new companies from the ground up.
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Venture Partners, Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIRs), and research teams to develop pro forma based on potential business models aimed at creating new healthcare companies.
  • Conduct thorough due diligence and provide strategic recommendations on healthcare services opportunities, including payer strategies and market potential for new company ventures.
  • Synthesize new company concepts into compelling narratives and pitch decks for investors and strategic partners to secure initial funding and support.
  • Assess competitive landscapes and guide new company strategies for differentiation and market positioning, ensuring new ventures have a clear path to market success.
  • Develop initial business plans, operating budgets, and key value inflection points for new companies to ensure they have a solid foundation for growth.
  • Partner with finance teams to structure and execute financing and capitalization strategies critical for new company development.
  • Assume integral roles in new company development, contributing to strategy, operations, business development, and project management to drive the success of new ventures.
  • Stay informed on market trends, industry developments, and investment opportunities through research and networking to identify and act on new company creation opportunities.
  • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing market insights and investment opportunities relevant to new company formation.
  • Assist in valuation analysis and cap table development for new companies to ensure financial viability and attractiveness to investors.
  • Cultivate relationships with entrepreneurs, industry experts, and stakeholders in the startup ecosystem to build a network that supports new company creation and growth.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA strongly preferred.
  • 8 years of industry experience with at least 3 years in strategy/management consulting within the healthcare services sector.
  • 3 years of experience with a healthcare services company, ideally in an operational capacity.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, with the ability to create pro forma and assess payer systems critical for new company planning.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the healthcare services landscape, emerging technologies, and market trends that drive company creation.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for new companies.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, working autonomously with attention to detail and a focus on company building.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders essential for new venture success.
  • Critical thinking abilities and adaptability to operate under uncertainty and drive company creation.
  • Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial mindset, eager to take on the challenge of building new companies from the ground up.
