Job Summary:
As the Area Engineering Manager for RailPros, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the success of our area by overseeing a wide range of responsibilities. Your primary duties include prospecting for future clients and opportunities, tracking business development and sales efforts, engaging in regional industry events and sponsorships, monitoring client and project financial performance, coordinating resource needs, promoting employee mentoring and engagement, advancing communication efforts, and identifying internal and external training opportunities. You will also assist with secondary responsibilities that encompass national conference presentations, organizational leadership, awards nominations, defining annual sales goals, contract/client management, client/project revenue tracking, client invoicing, organizational promotions and raises, regional support coordination, growth planning, budget management, operational cost monitoring, and overhead/indirect cost management. You will actively support leadership, management, client relations, teaming, networking, project reviews, and scope and pricing reviews.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prospecting Future Clients & Opportunities (Cross-Selling):
    • Identify and explore potential clients and business opportunities within the area.
    • Encourage cross-selling and collaboration across different service lines within the area.
  • BD & Sales Tracking & Prioritization:
    • Track and prioritize business development and sales activities to meet strategic goals. Include the Business Development Team in meetings as appropriate and work with them on Tier 1 clients in your area.
    • Collaborate with the Business Development team to optimize efforts.
  • Regional Industry Events, Sponsorships, Attendance:
    • Identify and attend relevant regional industry events and conferences as/if applicable to your area.
    • Evaluate sponsorship opportunities in your area and increase the organization's regional presence.
  • Monitor Client/Project Financial Performance:
    • Collaborate with finance and project managers to monitor the financial performance of area client accounts and projects.
    • Identify potential for cost-saving and revenue enhancement in your area and share with your Regional VP.
    • Track and report area client and project revenue, ensuring accurate and transparent reporting. Work with the Business Development team and/or Principals-in-Charge (PICs) if there is client overlap.
    • Collaborate with finance and project managers to develop accurate revenue figures for your area.
    • Work closely and maintain close communication with RailPros North Plains office and Headquarters in the US. Encouraging collaboration across different service lines within the organization.

  • Coordinate Resource Needs, Staff Forecasting, Hiring:
    • Assess resource needs for area projects and coordinate hiring efforts.
    • Verify the right talent is allocated to projects in your area.
  • Promote Employee Mentoring and Engagement:
    • Provide mentoring and career development opportunities for area staff.
    • Foster employee engagement and a positive work environment. This may include but is not limited to group lunches, events, outings, lunch n learns, All Hands lunches, etc.
  • Advances Communications – Office and Corporate:
    • Implement effective communication strategies to facilitate efficient information flow between the area, region, and corporate headquarters. Follow Communication Cadence roadmap.
    • Foster clear and transparent communication within the area.
  • Identify Training - Internal & External:
    • Identify and facilitate internal and external training opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of your team.
    • Ensure your area staff remains up-to-date with industry best practices and regulations.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • 10.Organizational Leadership:
    • Assist in organizational leadership and structuring.
    • Contribute to strategic decision-making and the overall growth of the organization.
  • Awards Nominations:
    • Identify and nominate individuals and projects for industry awards to recognize outstanding achievements, particularly in your area.
    • Foster a culture of recognition and celebrate successes within the area.
  • Helps with Defining Annual Sales Goal:
    • Collaborate with senior management to define realistic and achievable annual sales goals for your area.

    • Contribute to strategies that meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Contract/Client Management – Meetings, Resolution, Annual Surveys, Meeting Prioritization/Frequency:
    • Manage client contracts, facilitate meetings, and resolve issues promptly.
    • Prioritize and schedule client meetings and surveys for feedback and improvement.
  • Monitor Client Invoicing (WIP/AR):
    • Monitor client invoicing, work in progress (WIP), and accounts receivable (AR) for projects in your area. Work with the PIC if there is overlap.
    • Assist with timely and accurate invoicing and collections. Work with PIC if there is overlap.
  • Supervisors/Org Chart including Raises/Bonuses:
    • Assist in the development and promotion of supervisors in your area and the organizational chart.
    • Participate in compensation decisions, including raises and bonuses for your team.
  • Regional Support Needs (Corporate Services Support: Accounting, Proposal, Marketing/Sponsorships, Admin, IT, HR, etc.):
    • Collaborate with corporate departments to ensure the area's support needs are met.
    • Coordinate efforts related to proposals, marketing, sponsorships, and administrative functions.
  • Growth Tracking and Planning (Office Space, Regional Support, etc.):
    • Collaborate with leadership to analyze growth trends and assess the need for additional office space or resources.
    • Participate in the development of strategic plans for scaling regional operations.
  • Assists with Office Budget/Area costs/EBITDA/Cash Flow/ Annual budgets and tracking other KPIs:
    • Collaborate in developing and managing the area's office budget, monitoring expenses and revenue.
    • Contribute to tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) such as EBITDA, cash flow, and other financial metrics for your area.
    • Assist in preparing and analyzing annual budgets aligned with corporate goals particularly as it pertains to your area.
  • Operations Costs (Rent, Utilities, Cleaning, Office Supplies, etc.):
    • Collaborate in managing and optimizing operational costs, including rent, utilities, cleaning services, and supplies in your area.
    • Contribute to identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
    • Monitor space needs within the office and make recommendations as to needing more or less space.
  • Monitors Overhead/Indirect Multiplier Management / Utilization:
    • Assist in implementing strategies to manage and optimize overhead and indirect costs efficiently.
    • Collaborate in ensuring efficient resource allocation and utilization for maximum productivity.

Supporting Roles:

  • Identify National Conference Papers/Presentation/Topics:
    • Identify relevant conferences and forums for showcasing the organization's expertise, particularly as it pertains to staff in your area.
    • Encourage and support area staff in presenting at national conferences and contributing to thought leadership.
  • Leadership, Management, Client Relations, Teaming, Networking:
    • Provide leadership, effective management, and promote client relations and teaming within the area.
    • Build a professional network and strengthen the organization's presence within the industry.
  • Assists in Project Reviews:
    • Participate in project reviews to ensure quality, client satisfaction, and adherence to standards. Coordinate with the PIC if there is overlap.
    • Contribute to the development of improvement strategies based on project feedback.
  • Supports Scope and Pricing Reviews and Enforcement of Rules:
    • Assist in reviewing project scopes and pricing to ensure accuracy and compliance with established rules and standards.
    • Collaborate with the team to enforce pricing and scope rules effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • Professional engineering license (PE) or equivalent.
  • Proven leadership experience in regional or departmental roles.
  • Strong project management and budgeting skills.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, and presentation abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of the engineering industry and trends.
  • Ability to foster a culture of quality, growth, and continuous improvement.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Established relationships within the area, including with consultants, teaming partners, and clients.
  • Experience with business development, clients, and projects within the area.
  • 10-15 years of industry experience
  • Bilingual in English – Spanish. Advanced Level, Fluent in all forms: Spoken, Written and Reading.
