Lab Analyst Temp

Purpose
*Temporary, full-time position for approximately 6 months.
Prepares samples and performs physical and chemical analyses on green and calcined coke, using assigned analytical procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities  • Receives and logs samples from plants and vendors.• Prepares samples for required analyses • Performs specified chemical and physical analyses and required quality assurance analyses • Uses computer database and lab notebook to store and track analytical data/results • Performs preventive maintenance inspections on analytical equipment• Prepares area and equipment for new analyses• Rotates retained samples as required and disposes samples as required
• Reports any problems or safety issues to appropriate personnel • Participates in the continuous improvement of product and lab processes• Performs other duties as required The job incorporates the ability to follow written procedures. Although most aspects of work are defined, parts are variable—with occasional unexpected tasks, problems, or processes. Participates in problem solving activities related to improving the production process and work environment. While performing chemical and physical analyses, the employee works near moving mechanical parts and performs certain tests involving high temperature equipment.Appropriate PPE is required when performing certain analyses. The noise level in the work environment may require hearing protection. Job requirements (Educational qualification, work experience, required technical & functional skills) Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in related field from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, laboratory procedures and equipment manuals. Ability to communicate with all levels of company employees verbally and written. Ability to present information to small groups. Work requires resolving mutual problems and collaborating with others. Ability to work as a team player. Ability to calculate specified formulas. Ability to apply concepts of basic math. Ability to solve practical problems using available tools, resources, etc. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk or hear, reach lower than shoulder height, and use hands and/or fingers to handle or feel. The employee is periodically required to sit, reach above shoulder height, stoop, kneel, crouch or squat, and twist. The employee is regularly required to lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds, periodically required to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
