This is a full-time, IFPTE position, and hours of work and days are determined by the supervisor. Note : Employees serving in job titles assigned specific workweek limits of hours are entitled to be compensated for approved time worked in excess of their normal workweek at the rate of time and one-half.

Job Summary :

Under the direction of the Crew Supervisor, Plumber / Steamfitters, takes a lead role in performing work involved in the inspection, installation, repairs, and maintenance of all plumbing and steamfitting fixtures, fittings, and swimming pool systems within the college.

Completes and submits clear and accurate records of work orders, work done, materials used and time spent on job as requested.

Duties :

Repair leaks, replace sections that are deteriorated and remove blockages that occur.

Each day take chlorine readings and log them in the book. Clean filters and strainers; when necessary add chlorine when needed.

Keep all pumps, pipes, fittings in good working order, so there are no leaks, blockages or corrosion occurring.

Installations of these units should be installed according to manufacturer's recommendations. Fastening of these units should be made stable to prevent them from falling when in use.

All piping of joints should be made in such a way so that leaks do not occur.

Unclog lines with plunger, auger, or electric snake so that the flow of water is not restricted and prevent water form backing up or slowly draining.

All material orders must be given to supervisor, must state quantity, urgency, price and why needed and when needed.

Vehicles must have sufficient supplies to tackle daily jobs. All tools / material / vehicles must be secured when not within sight.

All work orders shall be handed in to the appropriate supervisor daily. Work orders shall be legibly written with all information requested completely documented.

All inventory used shall be documented on work orders. When inventory is noticeably low one shall request replacement to the appropriate supervisor.

Requests should be made on a work order or written and submitted to tile appropriate supervisor.

All work shall be performed in a professional manner. Work sites and tools shall be kept in a clean, safe and orderly fashion.

Preventative maintenance shall be performed under tile guidelines of the manufacturer or as requested on the work order form.

All items checked, serviced and changed shall go on a work order form.

All procedures regarding safety shall be followed adhering to Federal, State and Campus policy. Appropriate code books are located in the Facilities Office.

One shall always work in the utmost safe working environment, the safety of oneself, campus community, buildings and grounds are our highest priority.

Work involves lifting of heavy materials, up to lbs, use of ladders, climbing of stairs and carrying out tasks in cramped areas, bending, reaching, and working in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions.

Performs all other related duties as required.

Safeguards the confidentiality of college personnel records, files, fiscal data, correspondence and similar confidential materials.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Requires knowledge of problems involved in installing, inspecting, repairing and maintaining water, drainage, waste, vacuum and gas lines, radiators, water closets, wash basins, urinals, showers, bath tubs, swimming pool and other types of plumbing and steamfitting fixtures, fittings, appliances and machinery.

Also requires knowledge of state plumbing code.

Ability to understand, remember and carry out directions both oral and written, sometimes giving written and / or oral instructions to those assigned to your department.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.

License : Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
