Rambam Day School Temple Beth Am is Hiring a Guidance Counselor Near Pinecrest, FL

SUMMARY

Rambam Day School values the social emotional growth of all students. Rambam Day School’s Guidance Counselor is a member of the Educational Leadership team and works in conjunction with the Division Directors, the Head of School, and the Student Services Coordinator to create an intellectual and safe environment for students and staff.

The Guidance Counselor:

● Plans and provides appropriate services for students who are experiencing social and emotional difficulties.

● Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of all students.

● Monitors and evaluates student outcomes.

● Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.

● Develops, selects, and modifies guidance lessons and materials to meet the needs of all students.

THE GUIDANCE COUNSELOR WILL LEAD ALL SEL PROGRAMS:

● Assist in creating a school environment that is conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of all students.

● Assess and evaluate students who are exhibiting behavioral issues

● Collaborates with teachers, leadership team and parents in the creation of behavioral plans that include specific intervention strategies

● Implements, monitors and adjusts behavioral plans as needed.

● Develop and maintain an effective school counseling program consistent with the school’s mission and goals

● Assist in the identification of students with SEL needs

● Provide brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refer students to behavioral health specialists.

● Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports.

● Counsel students individually and in small groups.

● Work closely with the JS Director and Student Services Coordinator to develop and implement Rambam’s Middot curriculum and activities.

● Conduct classroom guidance activities.

● Stays updated on current trends and best practices in school counseling through professional development activities and training.

MANAGE CRISIS AND THEIR INTERVENTION:

Definition: crisis intervention refers to several different therapeutic approaches applied in a variety of critical situations affecting either individuals or groups of people. The common denominator among these interventions, however, is their brief duration and their focus on improving the stability of a person (or group of people) undergoing an acute reaction to a stressor rather than on treating long-standing mental disorders. Crisis may include- family crises (divorce, loss of income, etc.), natural disasters, suicide, community-driven events, and impactful life events such as a family member’s death or loss.

● Create and implement crisis intervention strategies

● Assist students in conflict resolution.

● Manage crises.

LEAD PARENT EDUCATION:

● Serve as a resource for school personnel and parents.

● Conduct parent education sessions that relate to the developmental needs of their children.

● Conduct parent education sessions that relate to topics that affect students in today’s society (i.e. bullying, social pressures, transitions, etc.)

SUPPORT MEETINGS

● Attend support meetings as necessary

● Create, communicate, implement, monitor and adjust student behavioral plans.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

● Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Guidance and Counseling or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

● At least four years of relevant experience in a psychological role in an educational environment.

● Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals.

● Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.

● Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach.

● Willingness to be part of a collaborative environment and work closely with colleagues and parents.

● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

● Capacity to meet the physical demands of the role.

● Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.

● Positive attitude, flexible approach, and a sense of humor.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, & the ability to adjust focus. The requirements of this job include extensive use of the computer and telephone.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is rarely exposed to the risk of electrical shock. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
