Description
Arlington Transit Management serves the Arlington Entertainment District's hotels, and provides service to Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, Rangers games, AT&T events, as well as various supplemental and charter services.
Job Description
Perform functions to provide supervision, counseling, coaching and required resources to assigned drivers of fixed route operations to ensure that operations are conducted in compliance with established operating requirements and to suit customer and community needs, working within the limits of standard or accepted practice.
Requirements
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitors roll out of vehicles, ensure appropriate communication with drivers and ensure buses are clean and in proper mechanical order.
  • Drives assigned routes to ensure that buses are on schedules, bus stop signs are in designed locations and to monitor on road operations.
  • Investigates and reports on accidents and incidents and take action as required by circumstances to resolve problems and maintain service schedules.
  • Brings replacement bus or van to the scene of breakdowns to transport passengers or continue route. Stays with malfunctioning bus or operate van to transport passengers to allow bus to regain schedule commitments.
  • Checks for detours and traffic conditions, determine most effective alternative route and report information to dispatcher and drivers.
  • Handles accident investigations, and sits on an accident/incident review committee. Prepare first reports of injury and incident reports; determine when medical attention is required.
  • Represents the organization to the community and to its customers. Responds to inquiries, investigate complaints about signs, benches or other related field issues.
  • Cleans up waste spills created by bus.
  • Open and close the division and ensure security of premises.
  • Conduct roll in procedures including bus inspections to detect damage. Receive defect slips from drivers. Review requirements and issue to maintenance for required repairs.
  • Monitors and ensure the accuracy of "Extra Board" assignments and provide procedural direction to dispatchers engaged in "Extra Board" work assignment.
  • Contribute recommendations for changes to methods and processes based on customer, community, driver and vehicle requirements.
  • Control special event and community service movements providing oversight and resolving problems. Participate to schedule drivers and vehicles for special events and oversee their participation.
  • Trains new employees in classroom and on road activities including defensive driving, bus operation, and commercial drivers ' license requirements.
  • Conduct commercial drivers ' license testing as required. Assist with the screening of drivers, applicants and recommend candidates for consideration.
  • Prepare performance evaluations, counseling and coaching of assigned employees and contribute information to management for performance review of dispatchers.
  • Conducts on board evaluations of drivers, driving skill, safety issues and interaction with the public. Prepare documentation of observations and communicate observations to drivers through formal process. Prepare reports to document activities, problems and exceptions such as road calls, complaints and accidents.
  • Escorts employees for drug tests as result of accident to random selection. Monitors employee attendance. Prepare employee attendance records and reports, determine compliance with policy by individual employees and submit for review by management.
  • Counsels employees regarding attendance and issue warning letters as required. Post and schedule driver vacations in accordance with sign up procedures. May be responsible for scheduling drivers. Receive and process employee exception time sheets, total hours and authorize exceptions.
  • May be utilized to drive revenue hours when necessary.
  • Must operate in compliance with Company's EEO policies and procedures.
MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs or assist with any company or departmental operations, under direction, to maintain work flow.
  • Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition. Ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains current, valid State of Texas Commercial Driver 's License, all required classes, endorsements and insurance.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalency.
Experience:
Must have valid clean Driver's License for at least seven (7) years. Obtain Texas Class B
Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement and Airbrakes.
Other:
Must pass physical examination including drug and alcohol screen, and back evaluation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally. Physical activity includes, but is not limited to: driving company vehicles; operating radio, headsigns and computer keyboard; handling, holding, lifting passenger packages; hearing passengers' requests; locking, opening, climbing, balancing, bending, squatting, twisting, rotating, kneeling, vision (both near and far), speaking/signaling, reaching, pulling/pushing: right sided acceleration/air brake food pedals; sliding left sided window at driver's seat, mirrors to adjust inside/outside of vehicle; destination sign; sun visor; levers/buttons/switches needed to operate bus/make adjustments to parts of bus during pre-trip inspection; lap seat belt; bus seats up/down to access wheelchair areas on wheelchair accessible buses; emergency hatch to open and close in case of an emergency
(rare) or if air conditioning failure; spring releases underneath seats, occasional pushing of wheelchair of at least 100 pounds, reaching below waist, waist to shoulder, above shoulder, repetitive motion of wrists, hands, arms, and/or fingers, unlocking while operating various switches and door handles; operating lift; removing items left on the bus by passengers; seeing that passengers are seated before moving bus into traffic; sitting on seat while driving; standing, walking to operate wheelchair lift; talking to answer passenger questions and to announce destination stops; turning pages of route manual; and writing to document accidents, incidents, vehicle defects, etc.
