Job Title: Senior Network Engineer

Department: Operations - Services

Reports To: Technical Program Manager

Location: Remote

Schedule: Monday - Friday

Hours: Full-time, 40-hours/week

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The Sr. Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's network security infrastructure. The Sr. Network Engineer will also be responsible for responding to security incidents and developing and implementing security policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Complete large-scale projects such as network design and installation, integration of new solutions into existing systems, and development of new technical processes.
• Work with Solution Architects/system Engineers to design and deploy networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN).
• Configure and install firewalls, software, servers, routers, and other network devices.
• Monitor network and security performance and integrity.
• Resolve escalated network performance/security issues.
• Communicate openly with team members to meet team goals and improve processes and practices.
• Maintain complete technical documentation.
• Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity, and scalability.
• Review and recommend new products and technologies that may improve client IT system performance and reliability.
• Periodic travel required to customer sites as dictated by project schedule.
• Enter actual time worked, once complete, at the end of the day, or no later than 10:00 a.m. the following workday, and submit timesheets at the end of each pay period.
• Submit MSRs (weekly, monthly, etc.).
• Complete required compliance training as assigned by RavenTek.
• Monitor and respond to RavenTek email a minimum of 3 times per week.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Critical Skills

• Specific technical experience with the following:

1. Cisco ISE identity and access management system
2. Cisco network device configuration
3. Cisco Nexus spine/leaf design and build
4. Cisco network device monitoring

• Understanding of network security concepts and best practices.
• Solid background in network administration, architecture, deployment, and maintenance.
• Understanding of access control models and network security.
• Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g. Python, Perl).
• Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SolarWinds network tools, WireShark).
• Solid understanding of Cisco IOS.
• Experience with current Cisco switches, routers and firewalls.
• Experience with Cisco advanced network products such as SD-WAN (Viptela).
• Experience with Cloud services (AWS, Azure) desired.
• Experience with DR Planning and testing desired.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong customer relationship management and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment onsite and remote.
• Advanced MS Excel and Visio to manage data center as-built documentation.
• Ability to multi-task and adapt to changes quickly.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field or 8 years direct equivalent experience.
• 5 years of experience in network engineering.

Certifications, Licenses

• ITIL v4 Foundation is desired but not required.
• Professional certification a plus (e.g. CCNA, CCNP, CCDP, CCIE).

Special Requirements: A minimum of Public Trust/Facilities security access required with the ability to obtain up to a Top-Secret clearance.

Work Environment

When working on-site, employee will be working indoors in an office environment with other people. Potential moderate temperature fluctuations. Typical indoor and computer related noise level, and typical office, paper, and equipment related dust. Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis.

Physical Demands

Employee needs to be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; see, talk and hear. Most positions require ability to work on desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time reading, reviewing/analyzing information, and providing recommendations, summaries and/or reports in written format. Employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move moderate to heavy amounts of weight, typically more than 40 pounds when racking equipment. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
