Job Summary: The Junior Embryologist will work closely with the lab director to reinforce REACH protocols and quality standards. They will work with and provide oversight and direction to team members to perform various embryology and andrology procedures in a busy IVF lab. Duties will include ICSI, insemination, biopsy, vitrification/warming, embryo transfers, sperm preparation and other duties. Additional administrative work will include helping with prep patient chart preparation, verifying consents, scanning and printing laboratory-patient files. The position will also involve database entry into local and regulatory EMR and databases as needed. Patient phone calls and interactions will be required.

Responsibilities:

· Perform clinical in vitro fertilization techniques. This includes obtaining a semen specimen and preparing it for insemination, retrieving oocytes from follicular aspirates, inseminating the oocytes by intracytoplasmic injection, culturing the resulting embryos, and assisting in the transfer of the embryos.

· Conduct semen analyses, evaluate and prepare.

· Ensure quality control and maintain chain of custody

· Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood and semen to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.

· Enter test in computer

· Perform quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data.

· Perform routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure.

· Verify instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data.

· Record on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance needed of equipment.

· Freeze and thaw embryos/sperm.

· Checks liquid nitrogen levels daily. Checks alarm systems daily. Checks inventories periodically. Freezes ejaculated, epididymal or testicular sperm samples.

· Performs embryo replacement (transfer) procedures using witness: selects embryos for transfer. Communicates with physician. Prepares embryos for transfer, enters data, and determines outcome of excess embryos.

· Participates in laboratory cleaning: prepares, cleans, and sterilizes pipette and other contact materials: prepares and cleans other non-contact materials.

· Cooperates with the Laboratory Director in maintaining logbooks for quality control and OSHA related matters.

· Cooperates with the Laboratory Director in implementing laboratory quality control and regulatory policies and procedures.

· Provides support and participates continuing education programs related to embryology and reproductive medicine.

Requirements:

· Candidate must be authorized to work in the United States

· Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year College or University in laboratory science

· Ability to work in a rigorous work, environment

· Must successfully complete practice orientation and training programs
