Part-Time Farm Hand

Job Description:

Redland Ahead, Inc., a local non-profit organization that assists veterans and the underserved in our community with training and job opportunities in agriculture, is seeking two (2) part-time farm hands for their various farming operations, to include: tree crop and a hydroponic greenhouse in production the Redland. The ideal candidate would already have 2 years of farming experience, but no experience is necessary.

The farm hand applicant should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the following tasks: germination, planting, seeding, harvest & post-harvest handling, seed saving, weeding, pruning, irrigation and irrigation repair, fertilization, pesticide and fungicide usage and basic computer skills. The applicant may also be responsible for general cleaning, repair, maintenance, harvest projections and record keeping.

The farm hand applicant must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and should be able to work 25 hours a week (to include weekends and holidays) outside in the
South Florida climate. The work will include long periods of time standing and walking. A work week typically runs Monday-Friday, but hours and days will be adjusted accordingly.

The farm hand must pay attention to detail, constantly monitoring not only the plants, but the systems that help them grow in the greenhouse, in the row crop and with the tree crops to ensure the highest quality produce. Having excellent communication skills is an important factor in our choosing the best farm hand that will be eager to openly discuss, analyze and give feedback to the rest of the team.

Compensation will be based on the level of experience, with the starting salary at $15 per hour for new farmers.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
