Redstone Federal Credit Union is Hiring a Payroll Specialist Near Huntsville, AL

Job Description Summary
Assists with the administration and processing of the payroll for all Credit Union employees; performs all payroll functions, time and attendance system administration and coordination of specialized payroll projects.
Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs accurate and timely processing of employee payroll; processes all required entries into appropriate systems (including but not limited to new hires, pay and incentive changes and tax withholdings); reviews multi-state tax submissions; reconciles benefit accruals and vendor charges; reviews and verifies approval of employee entry to time and attendance systems.
  • Assists staff with interpreting and applying payroll and attendance policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as backup system administrator for automated time and attendance, payroll processing and statement systems; reviews accuracy of entries; monitors system controls and approvals; participates in systems testing and upgrade processes.
  • Processes payment deductions and transmissions for third party benefit providers, including but not limited to; medical, dental, life insurance and retirement vendors.
  • Prepares and reconciles entries to the General Ledger to record all payroll activity; maintains proper payroll records and prepares required reports.
  • Maintains documentation of detailed procedures required to complete routine job functions.
  • Interacts with other departments and vendors to research and resolve problems and provide requested information.

  • Completes all required regulatory and compliance training and maintains required knowledge of Credit Union products and services.
  • Works scheduled hours and maintains punctuality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements
2 Year / Associate Degree - Accounting or equivalent education - Required
Experience Requirement
2 Years - Experience in accounting or payroll processing - Required
SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Effectively apply internal/external customer service practices and processes to meet quality service standards and achieve member satisfaction.
  • Learn and apply information, on a wide range of Credit Union products, services and regulatory compliance requirements, in order to assess member situations and develop solutions.
  • Analyze detailed accounting and financial information and make decisions in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate in a professional manner and deliver information clearly and effectively. Actively listen to questions, opinions and ideas of others. Use tact and diplomacy in sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Use correct English including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Operate computers and use business software including specialized accounting systems and other standard office equipment.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Set priorities and manage one's own time effectively.
