About the Opportunity:

Medication Technicians provide assistance with prescribed medications to residents and maintains accurate record of administration under the supervision of a nurse. The med tech will be responsible for basic care services such as bathing dressing and grooming, assisting nurses and RA's with medical equipment, checking resident vital signs and assisting food service in the dining room. Duties include giving residents important social and emotional support and providing vital information on resident conditions to nurses.

What will you do:

  • Medication Technicians verify the identity of residents receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage and time of administration on specified forms or records.
  • Presents medication to residents and observes ingestion or other application.
  • Takes vital signs or observes resident to detect response to specified types of medications and notifies nurse of unexpected reactions.
  • Documents reasons why prescribed medications are not administered.
  • Medication Technicians perform routine tasks under the supervision of nursing staff.
  • They answer patients' call bells, deliver messages, serve meals, make beds, and help residents dress, and bathe.
  • Med Techs also may provide skin care to patients; take temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; and help patients get in and out of bed and walk.
  • They also escort residents to the dining room and assist in serving drinks and meals.
  • Med Techs set up equipment, store and move supplies, or assist with some procedures.
  • Med Techs observe residents' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nursing staff.
  • Maintains awareness of comfort, dignity and safety needs of resident
  • Makes beds, changes linens and performs laundry services for residents
  • Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities
  • Maintains compliance to all personnel policies, established community policies and procedures, Federal and State regulations and standards, including, but not limited to HIPAA privacy and confidentiality laws

  • Must not be listed on CNA Abuse Registry
  • Must possess and maintain CPR certification
  • Must complete on the job training in medication administration practices
