Redwood Trust is Hiring a Financial Data and Risk Analyst Near Englewood, CO

Position Summary

Reporting to the VP Counterparty Risk, The Financial Data and Risk Analyst will perform in-depth financial risk assessments on prospective mortgage companies and commercial banks, focusing on financial analysis and data-driven decision-making. The successful candidate will have prior financial statement analysis skills related to commercial banks, credit unions, and mortgage companies, and have general knowledge of the residential mortgage market. On a daily basis, the analyst will work closely with the Counterparty Risk team and the Redwood Trust sales team to prioritize the list of financial assessments. Assessments on all approved accounts will be rerun periodically to ensure financial solvency. The analyst will also be responsible for developing and utilizing analytics to establish and manage the counterparty exposure limits resulting from possible loan repurchase risks. Additionally, the analyst will be responsible for coordinating annual recertifications for all approved counterparties.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Conduct thorough reviews of audited financial statements from correspondent originators on an annual basis, and reviews of interim financial statements on a monthly or quarterly basis from selected sellers. 
  • Prepare detailed financial assessments for initial correspondent approvals and annual re-certifications, focusing on creditworthiness, financial stability, and data accuracy.
  • Generate comprehensive reports for quarterly originator review meetings and credit committee meetings, presenting analytical findings and insights. 
  • Facilitate the exchange and analysis of financial data between prospective originators and Redwood Trust, utilizing third-party data suppliers and internal financial systems.
  • Participate in conference calls with correspondent originators to discuss financial issues, providing expert data analysis and recommendations. 
  • Work with third-party data suppliers to obtain, upload, and analyze financial data from various repositories, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Interact with the VP Counterparty Risk to monitor the collection and review of documents received during the originator approval process, ensuring thorough data validation.
  • Coordinate the annual recertification process, leveraging data analytics to streamline and enhance the process.
  • Perform additional duties as required

Required Experience & Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Business/Finance, with a strong emphasis on data and financial analysis.
  • 1-3 years of strong financial analysis experience, specifically in credit analysis and financial statement review within financial institutions.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including proficiency in data analysis tools such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with experience in data-driven decision-making.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, and maintain reliable follow-through, with a strong focus on data accuracy and integrity
  • Technological savvy, with the ability to navigate and utilize various financial systems and tools.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of interacting with senior management and external stakeholders both within Redwood Trust and with Correspondent sellers, presenting complex data insights clearly.

A reasonable estimate of the total compensation range for this role is 73k - 90k. The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, geographic location, training, licensure and certification, and other factors.
