Midwest Hardwood is actively hiring a Machine Operator/Utility to join our growing fast-paced lumber industry. If you enjoy working in manufacturing and making quick decisions while working under pressure, then this is the job for you!
Who are we?
Midwest Hardwood Company is a hardwood manufacturing company and industrial building product distributor that serves domestic and international customers since 1981. We have three sawmills and two dry-kiln facilities located in Wisconsin. These cities are Reedsburg, Park Falls, Mellen and Fountain City.
Activities of the position
· Ensure all personnel are clear before start-up & shut-down of equipment
· Manage control panel and ensure trimming specifications per KPC
· Maintain production levels (pieces per hour) and Downtime Log
· Monitor and adjust flow of lumber to Stacker via video screen
· Monitor the scrap conveyor via video screen
· Monitor and assist the board dealer as needed
· Inform Layer Maker of grade and load changes
· Ensure all tally lasers and width sensors are in working order
· Report maintenance issues immediately (Maintenance, walking, climbing on machinery requires Lock-out/Tag-out)
· Maintain good housekeeping practices, picking/sweeping up debris, broken boards, etc.
· Other duties as assigned
Essential functions
· Lift up to 50 pounds- hardwood lumber boards as required
· Stand 100% of the time with the exception of breaks
· Work indoors without heating or A/C
· Visual Inspection- length, width, and depth perception
· Effective communication skills
· Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
Schedule:
Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime. First shift hours. 40 hours.
Requirements:
Must be able to bend, twist, and lift 50 lbs repetitively. Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions.
Experience:
Manufacturing: 1 yr (Preferred)
Machine Operator: 1 yr (Preferred)
Starting pay is $17/hr but may be more depending on experience.
