REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT 13 is Hiring an Athletic Trainer Near Durham, CT

Position: Athletic Trainer

Schools: Frank Ward Strong Middle School, Coginchaug Regional High School

Position Available: August 2024 (beginning of the CIAC Calendar in the beginning of August through the end of June)

Last Date to Apply: Open Until Filled

Reports to: Athletic Director

Salary/Wage: 11 month work calendar; salary commensurate with education and experience; benefits included

Qualifications:

  • Certified Athletic Trainer, set forth by NATA’s BOC
  • CT Department of Public Health Trainer License
  • Prior experience as an Athletic Trainer, and/or Sports Medicine Training preferred
  • Certified and maintains certification in Basic First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED use. Having one’s instructor certification training to be able to teach and re-certify these basic skills to coaches is preferred.
  • Must have completed CIAC Concussion Course
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent/Regional School District Board of Education may find appropriate

Job Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Establish an effective athletic training program for the high school athletic department
  • Provide First Aid and Injury Assessment/treatment/rehab,etc. for student athletes
  • Provide coverage at home events and practices from the beginning of Fall sport season to the end of the spring season following the CIAC calendar.
  • Assist students and families with medical processes when appropriate (including referrals, required paperwork from student athlete’s medical providers.
  • Supervise the clearance process and protocols as prescribed by the state and/or the physicians of injured athletes prior to and during sport season.
  • Maintain a line of communication with the team physicians and school nurse(s) regarding student athlete healthcare for all athletic injuries and their associated rehabilitation / reintroduction into their said sport.
  • Assist Coaching staff in evaluation and implementing sport specific conditioning programs
  • Maintain an orderly and efficient athletic training room including budgeting / assisting in the ordering process of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain a daily treatment log and maintain accurate athletic injury reports and file all necessary medical reports with the school nurse.
  • Maintain communication with parents & care and treatment of their student athlete
  • Equip and maintain medical kits and their distribution
  • Assist in selection and fitting of athletic safety equipment
  • Coordinate with coaching staff necessary medical reports and education
  • Coordinate school’s concussion management system
  • Coordinate athletic departments registration system and coordinate with athletic department
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the principal/athletic director
