Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is Hiring a Graphic Designer Near Las Vegas, NV

THE POSITION
  • Although there is a salary range for this position, salary will be negotiated depending on experience.**
This recruitment will be used to establish an open competitive and promotional eligibility list that may be used to fill this vacancy and vacancies occurring in this classification for a minimum period of six (6) months. Applicants not meeting these requirements will not be considered for employment.Provides professional level support in the creation and design of a wide variety of graphic arts work. Produces graphic print materials for internal customers as instructed.
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
Working Conditions: May work shifts on days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
This position may be eligible for a voluntary remote work day 1X per week. The option for remote work is only available for incumbents who have completed their probationary/qualifying period. Remote work classifications are subject to change. RequirementsEducation and Work Experience: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a closely related field and two (2) years of demonstrated professional experience in visual communication design and production.
Licensing and Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid Class C Nevada Driver's License at time of application.
Background Investigation: Employment with the Regional Transportation Commission in this position is contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensive education/experience background investigation, a criminal history records review, and driving history records check.

  • Ability to design for different media (Print vs. Digital)
  • Proficiency in design software (Adobe Creative Suite)
  • The ability to create visually appealing and user-friendly graphics for brochures and guides, including route maps, stop icons, and layout design
  • Proven track record of working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and meeting tight deadlines. Public agency experience preferred.
  • Ability to design for a diverse range of users with varying needs and abilities. Knowledge of best practices for creating clear, concise, and easy-to-understand information for transit systems
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all design elements when working on projects that contain timetables, streets, and other details where the correct information is critical to our audience
PHYSICAL DEMANDSPhysical ability to perform office and related work, including operating computers and office machinery; stamina to sit for extended periods of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials weighing up to 25 pounds; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIESDevelops, implements, and coordinates a wide variety of creative and complex graphic artwork, primarily in digital formats, for public information and promotional materials. Plans, designs, lays out, and creates visual elements for brochures, maps, posters, reports, and other marketing and public information materials, requiring research and interpretation of subject matter, from concept to delivery of material. Recommends methods of visual presentations including theme, style, and format. Designs, coordinates, and art directs the construction of exhibits, displays, and models. Designs page layouts for multi-color, multi-page publications, booklets, and reports. Consults with coworkers and other department staff requesting artwork to discuss preferences, methods of production, budgetary, scheduling, and production requirements. Organizes and lays out the content of publications, selects type styles, and makes editorial suggestions to improve and clarify the headline/body copy. Prepares, updates, converts files into various formats, and distributes files to clients, vendors, and outside agencies as directed. Coordinates design projects with vendors such as outside designers, photographers, illustrators, and service bureaus. Prepares printing and/or production specifications and final artwork in digital format for vendors; expedites deliveries of project orders. Estimates production costs and determines design, colors, and graphics in accordance with expenditure and scheduling limitations. Researches and keeps current on new materials, methods, and techniques of production and equipment as related to graphic design printing, presentations, computer graphic hardware and software. Other duties as assigned.
GROUP INSURANCE - Health and dental insurance is available at a minimal expense to eligible employees, spouses and dependents. The RTC pays the monthly life insurance premium for eligible employees.
SERVICE CONNECTED DISABILITY INSURANCE - Eligible employees are covered by a Workman's Compensation Program in accordance with the provisions of the Nevada Industrial Insurance Act (NRS Chapter 616) and the Nevada Occupational Diseases Act (NRS 617).
LONG-TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE - The RTC pays a monthly premium toward a long-term disability plan for eligible employees.
VACATION - Vacation leave accrual is based on length of RTC employment. Initial accrual is at the rate of 3.08 vacation hours for each biweekly pay period.
SICK LEAVE - Eligible employees accrue 3.7 hours of sick leave for each biweekly pay period. Employees completing 10 years of service accrue an additional .92 hours of sick leave per biweekly pay period.
MISCELLANEOUS LEAVES - Court leave, military leave, parental leave, leave without pay, blood donor leave, education leave, and RTC promotional/transfer application examination leave are available (upon approval) for eligible permanent employees.
RETIREMENT - Full-time employees become a member of the Nevada State Public Employees Retirement System under an employer paid plan.
LONGEVITY PAY - Effective July 1, 2021, permanent employees who have completed 5 full years of creditable service with the RTC are entitled to a one time longevity payment in addition to their base salary. Longevity is paid annually, in a one time lump sum amount, at the rate of .57 of 1% at 5 years.
CREDIT UNION - RTC employees and their families are eligible to join the Clark County Credit Union.
TUITION REIMBURSEMENT - Eligible employees may be awarded tuition reimbursement upon successful completion of pre-approved, job related courses.
FMLA - Employees who have worked for the RTC for at least one year, and have worked at least 1,250 hours over the preceding 12 months are eligible for the provisions of the Family Medical Leave Act.
