REI is Hiring an Accounting Manager - Fixed Assets Near Seattle, WA

OverviewThis job contributes to REI’s success by planning, scheduling, and managing the day-to-day work of the Fixed Assets Accounting Team. This role is responsible for organizing, maintaining, and directing all Fixed Assets accounting activities and functions within the established accounting policies of the organization, including recording and maintaining the company’s financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and managing the preparation of various managerial reports. This role is also responsible for assessing business activities against the Capitalization Policy to determine appropriate treatment and for managing the capital expense / fixed asset life cycle, including cost tracking, capitalization, depreciation, impairment analysis, transfers, disposals and reporting. This position provides leadership, guidance and expertise to all cross-divisional business and technical teams regarding accounting issues, including their related systems and processes. This role also identifies and executes accounting-related projects that support company and department strategic initiatives. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in technical and operational accounting, the ability to work with large volumes of data and experience with both implementing and optimizing complex systems and processes. The role will lead the accounting impact and solution design for various new business initiatives. The ideal candidate works well through ambiguity, thrives in a fast-paced and changing environment, and possesses excellent leadership and communication skills.
Responsibilities And Qualifications
  • Provides oversight and develops the Core team through coaching, hiring and conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Brings a collaborative approach to cross divisional projects.
  • Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership and teamwork to achieve business results.
  • Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods, and practices to promote REI key messages.
  • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.
  • Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
  • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
  • Provides leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results.
  • Establishes and maintains visibility within the department.
  • Monitors operational statistics, report trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action.
  • Manages and leads monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings.
  • Reviews general ledger account data and analysis to ensure that the Company’s financial records are complete and accurate.
  • Reviews account reconciliations to ensure they are accurate and completed in a timely manner and reconciling items are appropriately addressed.
  • Expert understanding of internal controls related to accounting and reporting. Responsible for ensuring adequate internal controls within accounting and collaborates with other teams to ensure adequate controls exist for processes that impact accounting.
  • Leads the balancing and posting of financial information from systems that do not feed directly to the general ledger.
  • Ensures documentation of accounting practices and processes is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Key contact and resource for internal and external auditors providing supporting documentation and requests.
  • Identifies and executes accounting-related projects that support company and department strategic initiatives.
  • Analyzes processes and procedures; initiates, develops, and implements process improvements.
  • Provides leadership, guidance and expertise to cross-divisional business and technical teams regarding accounting issues, including their related systems and processes.
  • Provides financial expertise to internal management to assist in various strategic and operating decisions.
  • Performs accounting research and consults with the business to guide operational understanding and accounting requirements for new business initiatives.
  • Reviews contracts with fixed assets impacts to determine appropriate accounting treatment.
Preferred:
  • SAP S4 Hana experience preferred.
Required:
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting
  • CPA license
  • 5 years accounting experience, with a preference for a background including both public accounting and industry experience.
  • 2 years management experience in a mid to large corporate environment demonstrating strong leadership skills.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Demonstrates solid understanding of financial systems.
  • Advanced use of Excel worksheets.
  • Demonstrates firm understanding of how to apply GAAP to General Ledger accounting and operational policies.
  • Solid understanding of internal controls and related processes.
  • Ability to understand complex financial calculations and analysis.
  • Effective work methods, proven organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent follow through and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and objectively solve problems.
  • Ability to present analysis and recommendations to senior level management in a clear & concise format.
  • Ability to be self-directed, work independently with little supervision, and as an effective team leader.
