JOB TITLE: OPERATIONS MANAGER

LOCATION: GLENWILLOW, OH

TYPE: REGULAR FULL-TIME

PAY: SALARIED, HIGHLY COMPETITIVE SALARY COMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE, BREDTH OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTICE.

REPORTS TO: CHIEF MECHANICAL OFFICER

I. SUMMARY: RELAM is a Railroad Equipment Leasing and Maintenance Company

Operations Manager position is responsible for the safety, quality, and overall production for remanufacturing and maintenance at RELAM, Inc shop facilities. Including managing, in conjunction with our Safety Director, OSHA Safety Documentation, Safety Training, Environmental Policy, operating policies, procedures, and LEAN initiatives including but not limited to iMARQ/ConneXt Shop Reporting, Purchase Order Creation, Labor tracking, Logistics, Yard Maintenance, Shop Equipment Inspections, SDS sheet maintenance and supporting additional software implementations.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Responsible for the interviewing, hiring, training, management, and mentorship of all shop employees following RELAM, Inc. policies and procedures, ensuring staffing levels are appropriate for the volume of business. Planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, in conjunction with HR.
  • All Hiring and placement will be coordinated and approved by company HR department. Good communication with RELAM HR during the process is essential.
  • Responsible for identifying, documenting, and estimating the scope of work required for repair to existing equipment fleet.
  • Responsible for iMarq-ConneXt shop return inspections.
  • Responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all division and/or site activities to meet production, remanufacture, and profitability objectives while ensuring operations are providing quality services to customers and adhering to RELAM, Inc. guidelines.
  • Responsible for all annual inspections and OSHA compliance
  • Work alongside our Logistics Manager to ensure all equipment needed to ship to customers is communicated to shop personnel.
  • Prepare and submit reports as required.
  • Comply with and help maintain all KPI's and other measurement tools required by management.
  • Responsible for the progressive management of identified employees into leadership roles.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of company assets following RELAM, Inc. Policies and Procedures.
  • Create Purchase Orders and track all component, parts and consumable items purchased to support repair efforts.
  • Submit weekly labor hour sheets to Granite City location with proper Vin or Serial Numbers utilizing iMarq
  • Ensure photographs for all equipment being returned and shipped are documented and disseminated.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Strong Microsoft Office suite capabilities

III. BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage Labor safely and efficiently, with minimal overtime.
  • Be resourceful when repairing or purchasing parts and associated components.
  • Ensure communication with our Parts Department in Granite City, IL on all parts purchased.
  • Drive cost down YOY through leveraging best practices.

IV. QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required, technical associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • LEAN/5S knowledge a benefit but not required.
  • 5 year(s) plant operations or management experience required. Knowlege of the Rail Industry and your knowledge of Railway Maintenance Diesel Equipment is a value-added bonus you bring to our company and is preferred but not required.

B. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Must be dependable and punctual in attendance with a good work ethic.
  • Must have experience working in operations or managing people.
  • Must have the ability to qualify for E-rail Safe
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Good communication skills: Must be comfortable engaging in various communicative modes (verbal, non-verbal, and written) and being attuned to others through strong and active listening skills.
  • Ability to assess multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them on time.
  • Must work well with others as part of a team.

C. Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents, including but not limited to manuals, technical procedures, government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

D. Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

E. Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

F. Physical Demands

While performing this job's duties, the employee must sit, stand, and walk for various periods. The employee is occasionally required to be able to reach, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment consists of an industrial office and occasionally outdoors in various weather conditions and possible exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, or fumes when in the plant environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

H. Other Requirements

Individual must have the ability to travel periodically as needed. Limited travel requirement should not exceed three to four weeks a year.
