Description
Summary:
The Lower School Teaching Assistant is a committed Sacred Heart educator who assists the lead faculty in educating Duchesne's lower school students.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Create an emotionally responsive, caring, positive, and accepting environment supportive of the individual development of each child and family.
  • Supervise young children and ensure a safe and loving environment including the ability to monitor and respond to events going on at all times in the classroom, outdoor play areas, and other areas of the campus.
  • Attend staff meetings, serve on committees as required, and seek and attend professional development opportunities.
  • Prepare class activities and project materials.
  • Assist during centers and workstation time.
  • Research apps, videos, and Promethean board activities.
  • Secure library books for the classroom.
  • Take attendance daily.
  • Distribute and record information sent from the office.
  • Distribute student work each day.
  • Teach the class in the absence of the lead faculty.
  • Help to teach the class when asked by the lead faculty.
  • Monitor the children in the classroom, during specials classes, lunch, and recess time.
  • Work with individual students on an as needed basis in all areas of the curriculum.
  • Work with other grade levels for planning purposes.
  • Carry out playground and lunch duties as assigned by the Division Head.
  • Be available to substitute in other classes if deemed necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree
  • High level of competence using technology
  • Experience in a PreK - 12 environments, preferably in independent schools.

Upon Hiring:
  • Successful completion of criminal offender record information and sexual offender registry information checks
  • Completion of CMG Safe Environment Training.
  • Current CPR certification

  • Appropriately carry out specific duties as determined by the Head of School and/or supervisor.
  • Maintain professional credentials and complete required training. Participate in and provide documentation for at least one professional development opportunity per year in addition to those required and provided by the school.
  • Respect the confidentiality of the school, its employees, students, and families.
  • Comply with the policies and procedures as articulated in the faculty and staff handbook.
  • Authentically engage in the school's self-reflection process that requires written goals and measured progress towards them.
