Financial Controller - Fully Remote Our client, a high growth AI start up are looking for a skilled Financial Controller who will report directly to the CFO and manage a dedicated team of 3-5 finance assistants and accountants. Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial processes across both our UK and US operations. This role has career progression to a Head of Finance position from 6 months. MUST be a fully qualified accountant with US reporting and US payroll as well as UK reporting experience. Must have experience in a high-grow or scale-up business environment, particularly start-ups or SMEs. Key Duties & Responsibilities: Accounting Leadership Manage a team of 3-5 finance assistants and accountants. Oversee the full accounting function, including AR, AP, bookkeeping, and more. Take ownership of month-end close processes, reconciliations, and management reporting for both UK and US operations. Conduct thorough VAT return reviews to ensure compliance and accuracy. Prepare comprehensive year-end accounts for UK and US entities in alignment with financial standards and regulations. Collaborate closely with external accountants in the UK and US to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance. Payroll and Employee On-boarding Manage bi-monthly and monthly payroll processing and employee on-boarding, ensuring strict adherence to company policies and legal standards across both UK and US. File P11Ds with HMRC. Operational Support and Management Provide essential support to the team's daily operations, facilitating a seamless workflow and efficient practices. Consistently achieve and surpass KPI and OKR targets that align with the organisation’s strategic goals. Foster the development and maintenance of robust financial controls to secure the company's assets and ensure financial integrity. Project Management and Process Improvement Lead and manage ad-hoc projects, demonstrating flexibility and a capacity to drive change. Champion the enhancement of finance processes and tools, including the introduction of automation to increase efficiency and accuracy. R&D and Loan Consulting Work closely with our R&D team to support client queries in R&D accounting and file clients' CT600 for R&D claims. Collaborate with our loan consultants to support client queries in financial modelling and forecasting. About You: Fully qualified accountant such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA. Experience in a high-growth or scale-up business environment, particularly within start-ups or fast-paced settings. Familiarity with US reporting and US payroll desired. Previous experience managing a small team is also essential. Previous hands-on experience with Xero accounting software is preferred. They will consider someone who is looking to take a step up to Financial Controller too.
