Job DescriptionJob Description
he Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a 501(c)(3) lineage-based membership organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American History, and securing America's future through education, seeks an experienced professional to serve as our Senior Director for Historic Preservation and Collections.
This newly created role has overall strategic and operational responsibility for the stewardship of DAR's historic collections and archives as well as other critical operations. This new position will lead a senior level team of managers that are responsible for the daily operations of our Library, Archives, and Museum.
The successful candidate must possess a sophisticated understanding of curatorial principles and institutional practices. Applicants must demonstrate a record of converting vision into working programs and inventive practices.
This position reports to the Executive Director and will liaise with executive leadership.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with staff to improve the overall visibility of our Museum, Library, and Archive programs and further our commitment to making our spaces welcoming and accessible to a broad and diverse audience.
  • Ensures the preservation of the DAR historic building which includes the restoration, renovation, rehabilitation, and adaptive reuse.
  • Works with team members to ensure that collection management standards are being met and plans for new acquisitions.
  • Plans, monitors, and analyzes key metrics for day-to-day operations.
  • Communicates effectively with partner institutions, vendors, volunteers, scholars, lenders, and other collaborators.
  • Oversees the planning, development, implementation, and management of approved budgets, resources and programs.
  • Guides a diverse range of professionals to encourage professional development in their chosen professions.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in American history, public history, American studies, museum science, library science, or related discipline.
  • 7-10 or more years of experience, including 5 years of management experience in diverse leadership roles.
  • Senior-level management experience in a dynamic setting coupled with experience helping/supporting executive leadership to create a vision and strategies and then executing approved strategies.
  • Previous employment may include serving at other historical societies, libraries, museums, and collections in the areas of curator, conservation, education historic site professional, research, or project leadership.
  • Creative and visionary mindset with the ability to bring new ideas to the table.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with all levels of seniority and personality type.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage short and long-term projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of industry to include work principles and guidelines.
  • Proven ability to plan and manage operational processes for maximum efficiency and productivity.

  • Hiring annual salary range will be between $110,000 and $140,000, with the final determination based upon the candidate's overall experience.
  • This position can be considered for hybrid remote work-after onboarding.
