Job Description
The Best Western Corte Madera Inn is seeking an experienced hotel General Manager for this 110 room, 5 acre resort-like style property. This position oversees all aspects of hotel operations in accordance with Company goals and objectives, including maximization of financial performance, guest satisfaction, and staff development within established service standards. This position has the responsibility to solicit and sell guest rooms. Ongoing customer satisfaction is a key criteria of this position with high importance placed on strong guest satisfaction (scores). Strict adherence to Reneson policies and procedures shall be maintained with regard to all hotel service requirements. Strong and versatile leadership skills are required to foster a well-trained and motivated staff – continuously developing and encouraging all staff to feel the passion for the Best Western Corte Madera Inn.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Applicant should possess a strong knowledge of the operations of a limited service hotel, generally involving at least five years of operations, sales and assistant management positions. It is not a requirement but background with Best Western is preferred.
  2. Absent extraordinary prior on-the-job experience, the General Manager position requires a four year business or liberal arts degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  3. Applicant should have knowledge of the hotel sales and marketing process, and preferably have a background in hotel sales.
  4. Applicant must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Applicant must possess superior leadership and training skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities (big versus small rocks).
  6. Applicant must possess excellent fundamental math skills and the ability to operate the PMS system and work with the related Nova reservation system.
  7. Applicant must possess personal computer skills including use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Property Management system (PMS), Central Reservations System programs, and payroll programs.
  8. A Certified Hospitality Administrator designation is preferred.
  9. Applicant must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
  10. Applicant must be able to climb stairs, walk frequently, read, speak and hear consistently thorughout the day.
  11. Applicant must be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 25 pounds.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

To perform this job successfully, the manager must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility in a safe and satisfactory manner and be punctual and have a good attendance record. In addition, the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   1. Ensure good safety practices and all written guidelines are followed by employees and guests, assisting in the maintenance and adjustment of proper emergency and security procedures.
  2. Establish and maintains applicable preventative maintenance programs to protect employees, guests, and the physical assets of the hotel.
  3. Create an operating environment that assures consistent and strong guest satisfaction.*
  4. Monitors the performance of the hotel through verification and analysis of guest satisfaction systems and financial reports. Initiates corrective action.*
  5. Provide leadership to the Assistant General Manager, Executive Housekeeper, and Maintenance team .
  6. Maintains product and service quality and standards by conducting ongoing evaluations and investigating complaints. Initiates corrective action.*
  7. Develops accurate and aggressive budget objectives consistent with the Company’s goals and objectives.*
  8. In conjunction with the Director of Human Resources maintain a pro-active human resource function to ensure employee motivation, training and development, wage and benefits administration, and compliance with established labor regulations.*
  9. Maintains an appropriate level of community public affairs involvement, such as the local Chamber of Commerce.*
  10. In conjunction with the Corporate Director fo Sales executes marketing, sales, and operational activities, producing results that meet or exceed the hotel’s business plan and financial budget.*
  11. Understands and applies government regulations affecting hotels’ operations, ensuring hotel is operated in compliance with all applicable laws, ordinances, regulations, and requirements of any federal, state or municipal authority.*
  12. Understand and applies all internal accounting responsibilities as outlined in the accounting procedures guidelines.
  13. Plans and schedules the work of others.*
  14. Efficiently manage other duties that may be assigned.*

* Indicates Essential Job Functions (performance of the function is the reason the job exists). A function may be essential when 1) number of available employees to perform function is limited, 2) requires specialized skills – function occupies a large percentage of time, and 3) failure to perform the function may have serious consequences.

Regular Tasks, but not limited to:

a. Conduct property walk thru twice a day inspecting all public areas inside and outside and report any items of repair to the appropriate department for correction.

  1. On an ongoing basis answer all telephone and email inquiries within a timely period in a professional business manner.
  2. Review Rate Report daily to identify any rate or rate category errors and adjust as needed.
  3. Meet daily with department heads to review the upcoming day and any issues from prior day.
  4. On a daily basis review social media sites and respond to any guest reviews.
  5. Review daily occupancy and respond accordingly – reduce/increase rate based on demand.
  6. In PMS, Jonus-Chorum, review occupancy for the next 7 days to verify if any high/low demand rates – adjust rates and discount programs (e.g. government, hotwire, etc.) as needed considering forecasted demand and competitor rates. Compare property rates in relation to comp set, are rates in line – adjust as needed.
  7. Review discount rate programs (government, hotwire etc.) and adjust room inventory accordingly.
  8. Review daily MOD report. Respond to guest complaints as needed.
  9. Review and forward any employee or guest incident reports to Human Resources immediately.
  10. Review daily rate changes that were made previous day and follow up as to why rates changed.
  11. Complete deposits two times per week, as outlined in the Accounting procedures.
  12. Inspect a minimum of 5 guest rooms weekly and discuss findings with Head Housekeeper and Maintenance.
  13. Review occupancy history and forecast reports, sending a copy to COO the first of each month.
  14. Ensure that linen inventory is completed on the first of the month and reports submitted to Accounting.
  15. Hold weekly department head meetings to review the actual week’s business, forecast and scheduling, and upcoming events. Objective is to have a daily 5 minutes stand-up with department heads.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, use hand to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to reach out at shoulder height. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 5 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vison, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
