Rennert Teens is hiring certified and enthusiastic ESL instructors to join our summer programin Midtown Manhattan. Our programs provide international students age 13 – 17 an opportunity to improve their English language abilities through their passions, while making new friends and experiencing American culture. We do this through engaging, creative classwork, a tightly organized schedule of excursions and campus activities, and a caring, hardworking team of teachers, activity leaders, and administrative staff. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
ESL Instructors set the standard for professionalism and foster an inclusive, positive learning environment at each site. Instructors are responsible for supporting students’ learning, and completing all required records and documentation. ESL Instructor accountabilities include, but are not limited to the following…

LESSON PLANNING AND CLASSROOM CONTENT

  • Plan and execute engaging lesson plans for General English that incorporate reading, listening, speaking, and writing (with a focus on speaking) and are lively, challenging, fun and relevant to teen learners
  • Grade content-based curriculum to your classes interests and abilities, and incorporate student’s upcoming trips and activities into lesson content
  • Introduce and assess use of new vocabulary, functional language, and grammar through varied, student-centered, communicative activities
  • Prepare daily lesson plans with clear lesson objectives that include engaging activities, incorporate technology, and culminate with a final weekly project
  • Exhibit strong classroom management skills
  • Work with Academic Manager and activity staff to develop weekly student projects and to prepare for the main student showcase

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

  • Assist Academic Manager with administration of oral placement tests for arriving students every Monday
  • Submit accurate attendance records daily, and weekly progress reports on time to Academic Manager

POSITION HOURS AND PROGRAM DATES: This is part-time, 5 day per week role for the duration of our seasonal program. Students are in class from 9:30am- 12:45pm. Administrative hours must be held onsite at Rennert International during normal business hours, and in adherence to your posted schedule.

To be considered for this role, we are looking for candidates with availability from July 1st – August 9th. Duration of employment is based on student enrollments.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and US work permit
  • Ability to create differentiated content-based lessons for elective courses
  • TESOL certificate, state teaching license, or Master’s degree is ESL or related field required
  • At least 1 year of ESL teaching experience, with some prior experience teaching youth
  • Demonstrated understanding of teenagers and appropriate teaching strategies
  • Respect for and dedication to Rennert Teens mission, and working with students from varied backgrounds
  • Strong self and time management skills, proven track record of leadership and problem-solving
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, patience and a dedication to the staff and students
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Gmail and DropBox

COMPENSATION
16.25 hours of teaching per week at $20-25 per hour, commensurate with experience. Rennert International pays .75 hours of administrative pay, at the rate of $15 per hour, for progress report preparation each week
