Renown Health is Hiring a Transplant Donor Advocate Near Reno, NV

Position Purpose

The Transplant Donor Advocate plays a critical role in supporting and advocating for individuals considering or committed to organ and tissue donation. This position ensures that potential donors and their families are fully informed, supported, and respected throughout the donation process. The Transplant Donor Advocate will work closely with medical teams, social workers, and legal professionals to ensure donor rights and wishes are upheld.

The provision of these services in the United States is mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for Medicare-approved transplant centers.

Nature and Scope

Advocate represents and advises the donor candidate throughout the donation process with the goal of protecting their rights and promoting their best interests. Throughout the donation process the position will provide a safe environment for the potential donor to express questions and concerns regarding
the evaluation process or transplant surgery. 

  1. Donor Advocacy and Support:
    • Serve as a dedicated advocate for potential donors, ensuring their rights, wishes, and concerns are addressed.
    • Provide comprehensive information about the donation process, including medical, legal, and ethical aspects.
    • Support donors and their families emotionally and practically throughout the donation process.
  2. Education and Counseling:
    • Conduct educational sessions with potential donors and their families to explain the benefits and risks of organ and tissue donation.
    • Offer counseling services to help donors and their families make informed decisions.
    • Assist in the development and distribution of educational materials regarding organ and tissue donation.
  3. Coordination with Medical Teams:
    • Collaborate with transplant coordinators, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate the donation process.
    • Ensure clear and effective communication between donors, families, and medical teams.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to advocate for donor interests.
  4. Documentation and Legal Compliance:
    • Ensure all donor documentation is completed accurately and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Assist in obtaining informed consent from donors and their families.
    • Stay informed about and ensure adherence to state and federal laws governing organ and tissue donation.
  5. Community Outreach and Engagement:
    • Engage with the community to promote awareness and education about organ and tissue donation.
    • Participate in outreach events, workshops, and seminars to advocate for organ donation.
    • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and donor families.
  6. Data Management and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and case management activities.
    • Collect and analyze data to monitor program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
    • Prepare reports on donor advocacy activities for review by the Transplant Program Director.

This position does provide patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

Name

Description

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Master of Social Work Degree from an accredited institution required.

Experience:

Requires minimum two years’ experience in a clinical social service setting. Transplant experience preferred.

License(s):

Masters prepared social worker degree at minimum. Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Social Worker license at time of hire. Requires valid Nevada license as an LSW, LISW, LCSW, LASW or is eligible for licensure in Nevada.

Certification(s):

Certified Clinical Transplant Social Worker (CCTSW) credential is strongly encouraged.

Computer / Typing:

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
