Rescue Mission is Hiring a Now Hiring: Chief Development Officer Near Syracuse, NY

The Rescue Mission is seeking a Fulltime Chief Development Officer to join our Development team in Syracuse, NY. The Chief Development Officer provides the leadership and vision to meet the philanthropic goals of Rescue Mission Alliance through the execution of a comprehensive development plan and coordinated development operations. The Chief Development Officer is responsible for driving the strategy for all direct fundraising, management of portfolios, stewardship, and establishing and monitoring the fundraising and performance metrics of the development team. The Chief Development Officer oversees the Director of Operations who manages the department's daily operations, as well as the Senior Director of Development responsible for fundraising from individuals.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Lead Rescue Mission Alliance’s annual fundraising direction, strategy and tactics to ensure increased and sustainable annual philanthropic support.
  • Set philanthropic goals and initiatives for the Development team, along with managing budgets and metrics to measure and monitor progress.
  • Manage all direct fundraising including major and principal giving, mid-level giving, annual giving, planned gifts, corporate and sponsorships.
  • Maintain a portfolio of up to 50 donors and prospects to identify, qualify and cultivate gifts, for a three-part giving strategy with consideration for annual, major and/or planned gifts.
  • Strategize with and support the CEO, Senior Development Officer and Development Associate to ensure they are appropriately managing and soliciting their donor portfolios.
  • In coordination with the Director of Operations, manage integrity of data and reporting, departmental processes and overall department functions. Request research to be utilized by the development team and identify reports to measure effectiveness in fundraising strategies.
  • Active participant on the organization’s Senior Leadership Team, ensuring strong communication and understanding of Rescue Mission’s strategic and development plan, needs and priorities.
  • With the Chief of Marketing, Communications and Community Engagement, coordinate messaging and leverage development opportunities for donors and prospects across a wide range of platforms, special initiatives, and events. 
  • Effectively manage the Development team and work seamlessly with the Chief of Marketing, Communications and Community Engagement to ensure departments collaborate as a holistic team.
  • Manage and utilize the Advancement Coordinator for cross-departmental administration, projects support and logistical needs.
  • Responsible for the oversight and management of reports and development content for the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Ensure the professional development and growth of team members through mentorship and training opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with staff, volunteers, board members, donors, prospects, and the community at large - promoting the mission and vision of Rescue Mission Alliance.
  • Represent the organization at public events as appropriate, including those involving third-party fundraising and marketing.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed/assigned.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential requirement of the job
  • Promotes a safety-first attitude by setting a positive example and ensuring all employees are following safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 7 years in direct fundraising experience in a non-profit setting or equivalent experience in transferrable setting; a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license in compliance with company policy.
  • Strong skills in Donor Perfect database and Microsoft Office; analytic thinking
  • Must follow CDC guidelines regarding Covid-19, including but not limited to, wearing a mask when working.
  • Full vaccination against Covid-19, including Booster (when eligible) is strongly encouraged.
Pay:
$100K - $120K annually.
