POSITION ANNOUNCEMENTJob Title: Special AssistantBureau of Community Awareness, Action, Response and EngagementSalary Grade: 20Salary Range: $71,613- $72,190The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking one (1) qualified candidate to fill the full-time position of Special Assistant for the Bureau of Community Awareness, Action, Response, and Engagement (BCAARE)
The Bureau of Community Awareness, Action, Response, and Engagement (BCAARE) engages and supports community action to learn from community members' experiences and expectations to develop and disseminate behavioral health linkages and supports for wellness, and for preparing for, and responding to local and widespread events and emergencies. The bureau invites and includes peer perspectives to integrate equitable access to behavioral health across sectors and settings.
Presently, BCAARE is organized into five offices, namely, Behavioral Health Emergency Preparedness and Response; Community Engagement and Training; Consumer Affairs; Data Aggregation, Translation and Analytics; Policy and Planning. Key bureau programs, initiatives, and collaborations include Connections to Care: Building Resilience for Youth, Resilience and Emotional Support Team (REST), and public health education regarding mental health parity. In coming weeks, BCAARE is expanding to accommodate the pressing need for a unit devoted to City Hall requests for community mental health interventions during emergencies and catastrophic events that predispose New Yorkers to acute and long-term trauma exposure. With the addition of the impending unit, BCAARE will house a comprehensive continuum of units poised to engage preemptively to burgeoning mental health support and service needs and respond expeditiously to the swell of trauma-inducing experiences burdening New York City, and especially those communities that bear disproportionate burden. The bureau's role is significant for bolstering citywide community mental health, a much needed and recognized priority of agency and city leadership. The bureau's success is contingent upon the employment of a cadre of experienced public health technicians and administrators.
The preferred candidate will demonstrate astute project management, possess excellent organizational, verbal, written communication skills, and be a proven self-starter. A candidate who displays traits of resourcefulness, meticulousness, and dependability is essential to this position.
Job DescriptionReporting to the Assistant Commissioner of the Bureau of Community Awareness, Action, Response and Engagement, the Special Assistant will:
  • Collate, coordinate, assist with, and conduct data collection, quantitative/qualitative data analysis, and research to track all office programming across all OCET teams for reporting purposes; develop and implement special projects to fill gaps in care.
  • Conduct literature reviews particularly regarding evidence-based practices and innovation in relevant mental health services to inform outcome measures, survey development and research design.
  • Support data needs of BCAARE offices and the bureau by providing input, reviewing process of surveys, and managing the data collection, data reporting, data quality checks and program evaluation.
  • Provide data for presentations/conferences and talking points for Agency/BCAARE leadership disproportionately bearing health disparities, including those who receive BCAARE services.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to identify, integrate, and analyze available healthInformation and health outcomes data for underserved populations in New York City.
  • Participate in special studies and activities as assigned and other duties as deemed necessary by the Assistant Commissioner of BCAARE, or their designee.
  • Develop and present reports, briefings, proposals, position statements, and presentations for internal and external distribution at the direction of the AC.
  • Participate in special projects and workgroups as assigned.
  • Represent the AC as requested to community partners, providers, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, or environmental science or in public health with one (1) year of responsible full-time experience in an appropriate field of specialization. or
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, or environmental science or in public health with two (2) years of responsible full-time experience in an appropriate field of specialization.
