Resilient Lifescience is Hiring a Research Engineer Near Pittsburgh, PA

Opioid overdose is the leading cause of death for Americans under 50. Resilient Lifescience is developing a solution: a wearable medical device that can automatically detect and reverse an opioid overdose. We are a seed-stage, venture-backed and federally funded startup that is scaling our engineering team in 2024.

We are looking for a research engineer to join us full-time in Pittsburgh to help take our device from proof-of-concept to production. As an early employee, you will work closely with founders Brad and Charlie to assemble a world-class team and to bring our product to life.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, implementing, and validating digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms in Python to extract vital signs from raw photoplethysmography (PPG) and acceleration data.
  • Running experiments with different sensor prototypes to inform the optomechanical properties of our device.
  • Building the infrastructure to support algorithm training and validation using data collected from clinical trials.
  • Implementing the selected algorithms in C on an STM32 microcontroller and validating their correctness with automated testing.
  • Authoring unit and integration tests to validate the core components of these systems.
  • Drafting technical documentation, including design documents and test specifications.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be excited to work on a small team in a fast-paced environment, to pick up additional responsibilities when the need arises, and to shape the future of a life-saving medical device.
  • Have industry experience with the design, implementation, and evaluation of digital signal processing algorithms for the extraction of medical vital signs.
  • Be comfortable with the latest Python best practices, including the use of Jupyter notebooks, matplotlib, and libraries such as pandas, numpy, and scipy.
  • Have experience with STM32 firmware development using C, including libraries optimized for DSP.
  • Have experience working on FDA-regulated medical devices, including use of a quality management system and compliance with corresponding standards.

At Resilient Lifescience, we are committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants and teammates without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy (including childbirth, lactation and related medical conditions), national origin, age, physical and mental disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information (including characteristics and testing), military and veteran status, and any other characteristic protected by applicable law. Resilient Lifescience believes that diversity and inclusion among our teammates is critical to our success as a global company, and we seek to recruit, develop and retain the most talented people from a diverse candidate pool.
