Maintenance Facilites Technician Needed!

JOB SUMMARY:
Will perform minor maintenance and repairs to assigned equipment and facilities, including basic plumbing, basic electrical, and basic carpentry. The maintenance worker will communicate with the landlord’s maintenance personnel for larger repairs involving heating and cooling, electrical, sprinkler, and fire alarm components, lighting, and other building systems as needed. Maintenance Worker is to ensure that facilities are well maintained and supplied for children and youth ages 10-17 residing in a 24-hour shelter setting; funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). The Grounds Maintenance laborer staff must ensure that all services and repairs comply with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) licensing rules and ORR policies, Fire Safety Code, and MIOSHA.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair (electrical outlets, kitchen equipment, roofs, perimeter fencing, fire alarm control panels, general housekeeping equipment, etc.).
· Identifies vendors to ensure repairs are completed timely if unable to repair in-house with
Program leadership approval.
·Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. (Ex, drywall hole repairs, leaks, sink or toilet clogs, painting, repairing doors, and other building fixtures).
·Performs or facilitates routine maintenance on building systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (fire inspector, relevant MDHHS licensing, and ORR contract requirements).
·May clean and assist with upkeep of their work area, facility, and grounds, keeping any outdoor areas as needed.
·Order supplies and materials needed for ongoing repair and maintenance that is not provided by the landlord.
·Installs equipment and appliances as needed per the lease agreement.
·Keeps a maintenance log of repairs or work orders.
· Submits any estimated costs for repairs or invoices daily as per internal procedures.
· Reports any identified issues to the immediate supervisor as needed.
·Responds to repair and maintenance work orders in a timely manner.
·Needs to remove debris, dirt, furniture, or other materials as needed for repairs and to ensure the safety of children and youth in care.
·Needs to respond to emergency events to ensure the safety and security of the children and youth in care.
·Must never take children acting out or escalating negative behavior personally.
·Although the maintenance worker is not ratio staff, they must report any movement of the children or unexplained behavior that is observed to the Facility Manager or Program Director.
·Required to arrive at the shelter on time, review/receive any updates and changes in procedures, and always arrive prepared to work regularly and consistently.
·Ensures that there are no safety hazards for children, youth, or staff, whether indoors or outdoors, and must react proactively to prevent immediate harm.
·Maintains an inventory of all maintenance equipment and supplies and properly stores them according to relevant state and federal (ORR) contract requirements.
·Ensures that supplies and/or tools are locked and not accessible to children, youth, or unauthorized staff at any time.
·Attends program and departmental meetings as needed.
·Prioritizes tasks daily to ensure appropriate execution of repairs.
·Performs other duties as required or assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
· High School Diploma or GED preferred.
· 2 years of work-related experience in a busy commercial or school environment preferred.
·Licensed plumber, licensed electrician, AC/Heating or other specialized area related to building facilities preferred.
·Well organized, highly motivated, excellent communication skills, leadership skills that also display integrity.
·Proficiency in Microsoft Office is preferred.
·The ability to type and use a tablet/iPad, laptop, or desktop may be needed to complete daily tasks.
·Display the ability to understand and retain information relayed in training and departmental or program meetings.
·Able to work cooperatively with multiple members of a Team including program staff, DHHS licensing personnel, ORR/Federal Field Staff, and other program staff.

Pay: $20 - $24 per/hr
