Job Summary:

A Commercial Construction Estimator is responsible for calculating and preparing detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role involves analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and related documents. Determine the costs of materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Bid Preparation: Develop and submit comprehensive bid packages. Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Quantity Takeoffs: Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for all materials and labor required for the project.
  • Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and review bids from subcontractors and suppliers. Ensure all bids are complete and competitive.
  • Value Engineering: Identify and recommend cost-saving measures and alternatives to enhance project value.
  • Project Analysis: Analyze past projects for benchmarking and cost tracking to improve the accuracy of future estimates.
  • Documentation: Maintain and update estimating records, databases, and project documentation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to ensure estimates align with project goals and specifications.
  • Compliance: Ensure all estimates comply with industry standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Market Research: Stay informed on current market trends, pricing, and industry developments to provide accurate and competitive estimates.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial construction estimating or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, ProEst) and Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a plus.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Time Management: Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify potential issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of construction methods, materials, and legal requirements.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Office setting with occasional site visits.
  • Hours: Standard business hours with some flexibility based on project deadlines.
  • Travel: Minimal travel may be required for site visits and meetings.

Physical Requirements:

  • Mobility: Ability to move around construction sites.
